Hey Tim

delivered to the USAAF late November 1944 this a/c was assigned to the 15th USAAF in Italy and was delivered by ship to Brindisi (Italy) where it arrived in january 1945 and was readied for combat and put into storage for delivery to a fighter group as replacement a/c. VE-Day, however, prevented such a frontline assignment from happening, i.e. the a/c never went beyond Base Air Depot Stage (there are no records of assignment to any Italy based FG [31st, 52nd, 325th or 332nd]) - '350 returned to the U.S. October 1945 and the a/c then again was placed into storage.

Sometime later it was issued to the KY ANG, i.e. 165th FS.

upon retirement, it adopted civil reg. N2870D and later N51TK.

To answer your question: This a/c never saw combat, but actually was deployed to the MTO.

Cheers
Martin / Swiss Mustangs

I have the USAF site somewhere. I was able to get the whole history of my O2-A. They are friendly but a bit slow. I'll get you the site unless someone beats me to it!

I've always wanted to see "Punkie II" recreated on a present day Mustang.
