This is something that has bothered me.

Sally B has had a few different paint jobs in her life span, but why has she been kept in a Memphis Bell paint scheme???

Sure, she was in the movie, but she's a G model, still retaining the chin turret. Wouldn’t they want her to be in more of an authentic paint scheme?

Why didn’t they keep this paint job? I think it looked the best!-

Only the right/starboard/co-pilot side of Sally B's nose has the Memphis Belle artwork: Sort of an homage to its work on the Memphis Belle movie.

IIRC, Sally B played the "hero" ship only in the final (phony) sequence of the movie as it had a "smoke system" installed and the other B17 did not. I'm sure someone else here on WIX can fill in the facts.

My guess is that there is more information about this on the Sally B web site. They were very pleasant and informative when I visited them at Duxford in 1999.

I am just happy that they continue to be able to fly the B17 in the face of continuing difficulties, refered to in numerous previous threads on this board. (Do we need to dig them up once again?)

Seek & ye shall find.
:wink:

Chris;
The "Memphis Belle" paint scheme is a draw. She's a movie star and they are using her fame to the best of their abilities. It is the same with Tallichet's B-17 "Memphis Belle". Any connection to the "Belle" is a money maker!

Yeah thats true, but at least Tallichet's actually looks more like the original.

Still who needs 3 Memphis Bell's in the world? :wink:
