I found my pics of the Flying Tiger Museum from 1981. My dad took the pictures on his 110 camera so they are not very good ( lookng back on things I wish he would have never bought one of those cameras..oh well)

Better a "dab camera" than no camera.

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

In 1978 a couple of us traveled to Jr's place to check out in his many Warbirds. His letter stated they were all airworthy and had just come out of annual. HA!! The P-51 had 2 inches of 5606 in the backseat area, the T-33 wouldn't start and the F-4U had been bellied in a year or so before. We did get a ride in the AD-4N Skyraider (the dark blue one) for $100.00 and he rolled it mid field over the airport at about 100'. As I remember the AD didn't even belong to him and he was just letting the owner park it there. Those were the days!!!

I've got an audio tape of some sports show in which the rodeo rider Larry Mahan pays a visit to Birchinall's place, and flies a Stearman, B-17, and Mustang. I recorded it off the TV in the pre-VCR days..probably dates from around 1976 or so. I believe the B-17 had the nose art "Balls of Fire" at the time..a leftover from the movie "The Thousand Plane Raid."

I take it there was no A-26 present at the time?

I was just reading about Junior's place yesterday on Budd Davisson' website: http://www.airbum.com/pireps/PirepB-25.html
and more about the school and his P-51 checkout:
http://www.airbum.com/pireps/PirepMustangBurch.html

I find a lot of his stories to be cloying and annoying (although I loved him when I was a kid . . .) but I enjoyed these 2 a lot.

About 1980 Jr. sent me a flier advertising his annual air show. I flew to DFW on Branniff, rented a car and headed for Paris. The temperature was over 100 and the humity was just about as high. I think about 3 people showed up for the show and I was one of them. The other 2 were Jr. and the Fed out of Ft. Worth. Jr. flew his PT-17, his T-6, and tried to start the P-51. Brooks Moore flew the A-26 with Jr. in tow with the AD. I was up front with Brooks in the cockpit and on one of his passes he feathered the left engine. When we were back on the ground the Fed wanted to know what the reason was and of course there was no good reason. He just said, "Don't do that anymore". The A-26 was silver and didn't have any nose art as I remember. Those were the days.
