I'm not really sure what one thing got me "hooked", but I suspect it was watching 12 O'Clock High on TV. I was 5 years old when the show debuted in 1964, and it was my favorite show for its entire three-year run. I know I had an interest in warplanes before that, because I've seen photographs of myself at age 4 playing with toy fighters (P-51s, Bf-109s, etc). I was already building plastic models (by myself!) at age 5.

Cheers!

TBM-3 Avenger C-GCWG.

I'm really not sure what it says about me...but it probably isn't good. :)

My long term unrealistic warbird dream is to restore another TBM in the same markings but as ABH.

For me I think it was sitting in the Corsair cockpit at the World of Rubber Museum as a kid. From then on I was hooked, especially with Goodyear Corsairs! :D

I thought that dream was to mount a Bristol Centaurus on a Taylorcraft airframe :)

First got that bite with Black Sheep Squadron, but it was Fuddy Duddy and Doc's P-40 that put me over the edge. I remember hearing a B-17 was going to be at the airshow we were going to (our first) and I was so excited! It was all up hill from there!

I hope someday I live close enough to a museum to help turn a wrench and soak up oil and Av-gas. I so miss working on aircraft!

Tim

I can't believe the ages of you whippersnappers. I grew up during WWII and had silhouette models of every airplane I could get my hands on. Don't know exactly what they were made of. Some kind of 1/8" thick, black, fiberboard and the pieces slid together to give them a 3 dimensional look. Luckily, I was only about "5' zip" in those days 'cause they were hanging from the ceiling in my bedroom. Been hooked ever since WWII.
Needless to say, my favorite was and is the:

Well, they made this movie called Top Gun..... Yeah, I was really young when they made it, but I loved it. I was into airplanes ever since. As for warbirds, my grandfather took me to an airshow, and we were very early. I can remember the fog was still around. We were one of the only ones there, and he talked to a crewman on a B-17 that let me go and sit in the pilot's seat. I was in love with the B-17 and warbirds ever since.

My love began in 1989 at the Hoosier Hoopla Show with the only appearance of the B-29 Fifi to Porter County, Indiana.

I am a newbie to "Warbirds". I have been in general aviation for 16 years, the boss bought a T-28C in 1996 and brought it to the hangar and asked if I would like to rebuild her, with a resounding "YES" I became a warbird nut. Just that plain and simple.

You think you are getting old? I was 6 when Top Gun came out. Now I own the special edition DVD that celebrates it being around for 20 years! beside women age very well, like wine. Not only that, but you are Miss WIX.

My hero cousin Tom sent me pictures and updates regurally during his 2 tours in Viet Nam flying H-34s and CH-46s. I was very proud of him and bragged on him all the time. Has a 5-6 year-old he WAS superman to me. Has a 44 year-old I'm just glad he survived all those missions and 4 shot downs and came home :!: :!: :!:
