to have a fly-in this year or next year of the (i think and please correct me) five possibly flying P-38's. Maybe six. Got me thinking since I read on here that March 31st at Chino would have 2 together flying. I guess logistics and dollars is the first answer that comes to mind.

Where: Say meet in Texas or California in late 07 or Mid 08. Chino or CAF.

Who: Glacier Girl, 23 Skidoo, Black P-38 in NM, Putt Putt Maru in Florida, the one being restored at Ezell for Red Bull, & the one in MN being restored.

Flying them: Are there enough qualified pilots to fly the lot at once? Who would they be?

When was the last time 5-6 P-38's were flying in formation at an air show? Reno races?

Boy that would be quite a sight to see! I'd pay a $25 entrance fee for such a once in a lifetime event. Video recorder and Camera in hand. Most I have ever seen is 2 the same day but separately.

I don't think War Eagle P-38 has flown in over a decade, if not longer.

I don't think there has ever been more than two at a time at Reno, unless the year Scatterbrain Kid showed up both Lefty and Levitz were there, I don't remember. Once Levitz' was damaged there in 82 or 83 Lefty was it. The last one to show was the POF Joltin Josie which was flown for heritage flights only, about 5 years ago.
There are some photo's floating around of the races between Lefty and Levitz the last year they were both there and flyable, 81 or 82.
Lefty always flew his tight, low race and did the most beautiful aero routine I've ever seen. If you never saw him perform, you missed something really great.

EVG's P-38 has only ferry times since it's restoration and hasn't flown in years. :(
I maybe wrong but I don't believe Erickson's has flown in quite sometime.
also :?:

Might as well include Jack Croul's Lighting undergoing restoration in Calif.

5, 6 or more? Cleveland 1947 Sohio Trophy Race. 7 P-38/F-5G a/c raced in the same space of air!

Why not stage it at Thunder over Michigan? They are making a B-25 theme this year. With flyable 38s as rare as hen's teeth that would have been something to see. I think I'd even match your $25 and raise it with another $50 to see that kind of gathering. But for now I think my money is safe... :(

I was recently introduced to a new WIX Member Scott 'Gunny' Perdue. I had noticed this Web link in his Signature: block

On the first page it said this:

Ron Fagen's Warhawks, Inc will bring a new P-38 to airshows in 2007 and Scott "Gunny" Perdue is the fortunate pilot.

Scott can you elaborate on this?

Steve
