I'm headed to Central Texas for a while and I'm hoping to do some warbird spotting in that area. I'm already planning to visit the CAF wing in San Marcos. Do you guys know of any otherwise hidden treasures in that area?

Rob:
Where specifically are you going to be based and for how long, there is a fair amount of warbirds in the area, and depending on when, several shows.

The CAF has the B-25, Devil Dog and I believe a Stearman, etc., at their hangar in Georgetown at the north end of the field. It's a nice place to fly into and if driving only about 45 min from Austin Bergstrom. The A-26 is with Joe Neimer at Waco in a commercial hangar. The guys at San Marcos are great and their old wooden hangar is a treasure, I wish I had it up here, and of course that little is a scenic spot to visit.

I'm planning to stay in Temple at least for the rest of this week, and the beginning of next week. The work I'm doing down there is fluid, so I'm not sure where I'll be going from there. Georgetown is one of my stops, so I'll be sure to look for the B-25 & Stearman of they are available for public viewing. 8)

There used to be a MiG-17 operator based in Mabank, which roughly along the route I'll be taking down there. I might try to locate the airstrip there as well.

Burnet, TX also has a few warbirds, and its a nice day trip from Temple. They are having an airshow in April, if you are still in the area. They have a C-47, a Tora replica Kate torpedo bomber, and a couple of others that I can't remember off of the top of my head.

Dang, I was just in Burnett this afternoon! Back in Killeen now, but work might take me back tomorrow, hopefully. Hoping to visit the Army Museum here as well. I dropped by Georgetown today but didn't spot any warbirds out in the open. Anything in Waco?

Rob, as I wrote Neemer Electric ( Joe Niemer?) has his A-26 in the Blackland hangar at Waco. You might phone him first. I hope to attend the CAF show April 14 at Burnet. CAF B-25, perhaps T-6 etc. has been a the last hangar or 2 at the north end at Georgtown. Don't know about Austin, that slimball Michael Dell bought and closed the last real general aviaton airport there.
