Who are you're favorite authors

The favorite book thread got me thinking that I really could not pick a favorite book, I like many books equally, so I thought I would start up an authors thread. I don't want to know what you read, I want to know who you like to read.

List as many as you like. My top picks are:

I go for Clive Cussler, Dale Brown, Richard Herman, Tom Clancey, Jack Higgins, Douglas Reeman, Alistiar Maclean, Ernest K. Gann, Dick Frances and Louie Lamour. Oh and Jimmy Buffet's not bad either.

Nice to see I'm not the only Cussler fan here. As a side note, what do you Cussler fans think of the Kurt Austin and Oregon Files off-shoots?

I find that they are as enjoyable as the Dirk Pitt adventures myself.

Kurt Austin is good, BUT, Nobody beats Dirk Pitt!
Oh, and I forgot Tony Hillerman is a good writer also!

Well, unfortunately Dirk has been kicked upstairs to replace the retiring Jim Sandecker. I don't think you'll be seeing Dirk having many adventures from now on.

Trojan Odyssey (now in paperback) was the last Dirk Pitt. Lost City is the current Kurt Austin (hardcover only at this time) and Sacred Stone is the current offering in the Oregon Files series (large paperback editon).

Clive Cussler (for the Dirk Pitt stuff... I'm not sure about the NUMA files yet), Martin Caidin (Whip....!! ) and Frederick E Smith (633 squadron).

I also read a lot of Bernard Cornwell and his Sharpe series.

My choices, in no particular order, would be...

1. Craig Thomas - of Firefox fame
2. Charles Whiting
2a Leo Kesseler (who I believe also writes as Charles Whiting, or is that the other way around?)
3. Tom Sharp - brilliant humourist and if you haven't tried him, read the 4 WILT books (Wilt, The Wilt Alternative, Wilt on High and Wilt in Nowhere, in that order and I promise that you will laugh). His other titles aren't bad either but the Wilt series have had me in hysterics.
4. Sven Hassell

I'm sure that there's more but as a starter, the above are greatly recommended.
