Tempest OTW

Anyone knows more :?:

Quote:
In February 2007 Kevin Strickson reports:

"When I spoke to one of the engineers from Tempest Two Ltd., he said that they had four Tempests in total and they were building two flyers and one static (if possible) out of the bits. As you can see from the photograph, Tempest Two Ltd. has done an excellent job in restoring this particular bird from its original state. It awaits the return of the engine that has been sat with California-based Nixon engines for the past two years being serviced - once this is done it should be a relatively straight forward job of assembly and then it has to have its CAA airworthiness checks."

hmmm.... Tempest II - Centaurus engined.... would be nice to have a flying Napier Sabre version... (just dreaming - those engines are maintenance hogs and very rare, too).

Currently waiting its engine, which I believe is in america. They also have a couple of Sturmovik under going restoration, 1 to fly and 1 static

In reference to a Napier Sabre powered version. I thought Kermit Weeks had one under estoration in the UK?

Hi all--

Delighted to see there's been more progress than I imagined on the UK Tempest II project. It's not quite a Sea Fury, but hey... (We're about to regain bargain-priced Mt.Hope-to-UK airline service, too. Hm. 18 years since I was in the UK. Time for a repeat visit...?)

Yes, Mr Weeks does have a longterm Tempest V project (EJ693, one of two surviving Sabre-engined Tempests--see the Registry). He's also got the second prototype Tempest II (LA607), rescued many years ago by the farsighted Peter Thomas in the UK. And on that subject...the Registry has photos of LA607 parked at Sun 'n Fun. Did Kermit actually get that aircraft flying and nobody covered it??

S. (slightly flummoxed)

I would think the only flying that LA607 has done is under a cane, both the Tempest and the Lysander looked very sad when I saw them in November.
