Pres Bush In Real Trouble

Wed Feb 21, 2007 10:32 am

You may have read the news that Tony Blair has just left the USS Bush while the lifeboats were still above water. The US forces may miss 7000 well trained and equiped British troops, but that is not the biggest dilema that Bush faces. This morning it is announced that Lithuania is removing all of it's 53 modern, battle hardened, forces. I can't imagine anything that could encourage terrorists more since Sgt. Garcia and the mighty army of El Salvador pulled out.

What made me laugh was the Bush administration's response to this (below).

Bush views Britain’s troop cutbacks as “a sign of success” in Iraq, he said.
“While the United Kingdom is maintaining a robust force in southern Iraq, we’re pleased that conditions in Basra have improved sufficiently that they are able to transition more control to the Iraqis,” Johndroe said.
Separately, Vice President Dick Cheney described the British move as a positive signal.

So I guess that means if we pull out of Iraq right now Bush can call it a success? I wonder what it's like to go through life with blinders on? :?

Sounds like Australia is sending a bunch more troops though. Why would they do that based upon your comments?

Hmmm  ...maybe John Howard took Senator Barrack Obama's advice

"I would also note that we have close to 140,000 troops on the ground now and my understanding is that Mr Howard has deployed 1400. So, if he's ginned up to fight the good fight in Iraq, I would suggest he calls up another 20,000 Australians and sends them up to Iraq. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of empty rhetoric.''

Although I'd question how much a "bunch" is...probably a couple hundred considering how few are over there now.
