This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Over the last few days, I have serviced my plane, started it and yesterday I ran it up and taxied a little as I have not flown it for almost 3 months. I need to take it over to Ray Middelton for minor service. I was ready to go today and it was a beautiful clear blue sky. However there were not only warnings of moderate to severe turbulence over the front range; there were actual pilot reports of some severe turbulence and lots of moderate ones. So, I didn't fly. I drove over to Denver and now that I'm here the surface wind is almost calm and there are only a couple of turbulence pireps, most up high.Hopefully weater will cooperate when I get back from NWOC. It was good to hear the Merlin again, even on the ground.

It is better to listen to the PIREPS then to stick your but and the plane out on the line.

Bill, we came back from Eagle on Sunday and the mountain rollers were out in force. We were @ Ftl 370 and just on top of them. They were centered around Pubelo, CO. I thought about calling you but the mountain roads were iced over. Next time. All we get to hear & see is things like this.....

If the Spitfire under the bridge doesn't get a smile out of you, you're on the wrong forum.
Mudge the smiling

You need to get it ready and drag it down to Midland in late Sept.

Both those clips are of the late, great and much missed Ray Hanna flying his beloved Spitfire MH434.
The under the bridge sequence was shot for the TV series "A Piece of Cake" but was spliced into the much more recent "Foyles War"which is what's shown here. They shot new additional footage to fit the new script.
The second clip is from a UK programe called "The Airshow" and the story goes that they had said something that had got to Ray so when they asked for a low run "to camera", he obliged. Legend has it that if you spend long enough looking a frame at a time, given the angle of the sun and the shadows on the ground, there was only 6 inches clearence from the prop disk.

I like how its starts like a Merlin, takes off like a Merlin and cruises in Griffon mode

Well,
As the old saying goes:
"Its always better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than in the air wishing you were on the ground."
Can you send me an oily rag?

Bill, did I hear you say you bring your Spitfire over to the eastern slope for service? If you're ever around here (Ft. Collins, Greeley, Loveland area) I'd love to see your plane in person if you don't mind?
Thanks, Doug

Bill
Atleast now you have time to practice your:
"BTFCPPUR" exercises, until the next nice day.
As any good Spit pilot should
