Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

The earliest shot I have. Taken late 40s maybe St. Louis after she was sold to Continental Airlines as a crew trainer. Top turret and guns have been removed.

The next shot was taken in Florida where she sat for many years and corroded. As you can see she had been modified as an executive transport.

have most of the previous owner modifications been overcome? And how many and what sort of modifications are we talking about?

Also there was mention on your site of the PBJ-1J being used in conjunction with the Military test pliot program. How can a PBJ relate to this program in this day and age?

Thanks

Shay

As to the question about the Military test program you will find this interesting.

As you know the Test Pilot School is located at Edwards Air Force Base. We participate in their air show every year and in fact one of their U2 pilots is one of our wing members. Part of the program at TPS is learning how to define an aircrafts flight envelope. The Air Force loves to use non-standard aircraft for this purpose. A C-47 for example is radically different than anything today’s military pilots are familiar with. They like to use transports for the seating capacity. The less familiar the aircraft systems are the better they like it from a learning stand point so you see old technology can be very relevant in today’s fly by wire and auto land environment.

nope, still nothing, and Photobucket is saying incorrect link.

Couple of quick thoughts. If you can see them and we can't maybe you've got permissions set to 'private' or something?

You've copied and pasted the THIRD option 'IMG Code'.

Sorry Dan it took me this long to answer back but I'm currently involved with the Connecticut Air and Space Center. We are restoring two S-52's into a presentable static condition. One is for us while the other is going to a Marine Corps museum I believe.
