A while back someone ...BDK? mentioned the LTV (Vought) Retirees restoration efforts in at the Dallas plant.
I finnally found my the few pictures that I took on a family day visit a couple of year ago.

Yepper, WC the V-173 did indeed fly. Nice shot of the RF-8 Ztex...shexxey bird!
Do you know if the Cutlass is the 60's Hensley gateguard from across the
field?

It flew very well and led to the development and construction of two F5U fighters using the R-2800 engine, which, unfortunately, never had the chance to fly before the Navy ordered them to be destroyed when they decided that propeller aircraft were "out" after WWII.
I believe even Chas. Lindbergh flew the V-173 around CT.

I'm not sure of the ownership. I think the A-7 and one of the F-8's are at the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas. IIRC the V-173 is a NASM property.
I don't know if the Cutlass is the gate guard..but it would make sense if that was it.

Just as an update, the A-7, RF-8 and Regulas are all currently on display at the Frontiers of Flight museum at Love Field.

I knew the F-8 and A-7 were over at FOF I had forgotten about the Regulas being over there too. I found it in some pics I took last year when the Collings birds were in town.

FYI, The Regulus and the F6U Pirate were both part of the New England Air Museum Collection for many years. NEAM is currently restoring their Regulus 1.

It sure is nice to see that the LTV folks and the local community acutally care about their own aviation history. It's great that the folks that designed and built these great planes can actually take their grandchildren and friends somewhere close by to show them what did for a living.
If you come to St. Louis where the locals built lots of cool jets like the Banshee, F-101, F-15, F-18, and of course about 5,000 F-4 Phantoms, you can visit the local museum that displays examples of each one inside a nice display hangar.
Oh wait a minute. I guess that's not true. Come to think of it, there is no place in St. Louis that you can see indoor examples of any of the famous fighter jets built here in town. Shame on us. We suck.
Meanwhile, out at Davis Monthan, chop, chop, chop. crush, crush, smash, melt.

Well..Don't go looking in Ft. Worth for anything either..No F-16, F-111, B-58, B-24, and of course "our" B-36 is now in Arizona...

And what's worse, the PIMA site doesn't give ANY credit to all of the volunteers of what became known at the B-36 Peacemaker Museum and their years of effort in restoring her.

Don't forget P-51C/K, Swift's and Luscomb's and all the P-47 that were rebuilt by TEMCO.
Where was that by the way? Someone told me it was at what is now Billy Bob's.
What else was built in D/FW?

TEMCO enjoyed a rapid expansion with its military contracts,
involving production of 400 C-82 subassemblies & 200 F-24 subassemblies for Fairchild Aircraft Company.
After the firm acquired additional facilities in Greenville, the Grand Prairie plant focused primarily on Navy programs.
TEMCO eventually vacated the Grand Prairie facility completely.
The next occupant of the Grand Prairie aircraft plant was Vought.
