A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

Thanks for the tip. But as it turns out, my black Sharpies get stolen waaaay before I ever get to use 'em anyway. :x
I just end up with the stupid lookin' greens, blues, reds, purples, etc.

I know it's been a few days since the last update, so here's another little short one for y'all...

I've been working on some cosmetic changes to the airplane (and doing VERY poorly at it :x ), while Andy and Gary (the volunteer) have been chugging away on the many little items remaining on the project. In this picture, they are working together to install the remaining tunnel gun windows since we finally got our hardware in for them.......

I'm happy to say that rather than me having to recover the rudders and elevators for the airplane, Lance Sommers, from the CAF's High Sky Wing, has graciously accepted the job. I just have a gazillion other things to get done in a very short period of time and him stepping up to help on such short notice is extremely helpful.

The elected staff of the B-29/B-24 Squadron are very close to deciding (via a vote) on the new noseart for Ol' 927. I should have the final vote in this weekend at the latest. It's just a shame that we're going keep it somewhat of a secret until the unveiling in May.  I'm sure that with the proper motivation, however (Pronounced--generous donation), I could forward an individual a sneak peek of it.

Wow, it didn't take long for you to figure that out. Perhaps I gave y'all a little too much of a hint.....OR...maybe that's just black primer.

No wonder you're having paint problems if the fuselage wasn't degreased for you! I see oil stains on the tan...

Flat black eh? Red wheels too? ;)

Woohoo looks like I might win the "Guess the AM927 paint scheme" pool  IF the black underside is any indication, it looks like she "might" just have the RAF color scheme she would have had after she was delivered to the UK. 8)

U.S. B-24A's also had that paint scheme as well, with the pre-War star on them, rather than the British roundel.
