Good Lord -- please tell me your dad took the "after" picture...

My dad painted the cow. Another crew borrowed the plane and crashed on take-off due to lack of power.

Well he did a good job on the cow anyway.

The aircraft in question was a lemon. According to Dad, he was in his tent reading a Disney comic book and saw the cow. He said to a crewmate, "Instead of painting a good looking girl on the plane, why don't we paint this cow with wings. With the problems we've had with her, she flies about as well as a cow."

Just curious, where did it crash? and I wonder if its still there?

Eniwetok July 1944. You could maybe sneak on the atoll and dive. However, the U.S. Government might frown upon that.

read the subject head and thought, what the heck – cow and airplane doesn't compute. Picture + explanation = got it. A real cow indeed!

Thus, my father's assertion was correct.

Glad to know your father lived to fight (and paint) another day -- any idea what happened to the crew that WAS on board that day?

The crew survived, some with minor injuries. A month later they were shot down over Chichi Jima and killed. That's another story...
