Also I live in Bakersfield and drive 126miles south to Camarillo to work on warbirds so I don't have much excuse for not getting up there. Near Firebaugh right?

I never have, nor judging by the sound of it, never will get the chance to work on a B-29. The name is merely a 10 year old screen name that has stuck with me over all these years. "29" is a favorite number of mine, as well as my hockey jersey number, a number I play the lottery with, and two digits in my phone number. "Crew" was the closest aviation term I could think of that wasn't completely played out...

As far as the museum, I have been a very active member for almost 15 years. This past year, I was lucky enough to be offered a job. I've had the oppurtunity to work on and serve as flightcrew on virtually every thing flown at MAAM over the last decade and a half. From changing cylinders on the R4D to flying aboard the Neptune, growing up at MAAM has been a great experience... I look forward to many more years

Well as many Warbird owners know the fuel caps are the one part of the aircraft that cost you the most. Every time you open them it costs you lots of money.

It took me a long time to find the oddball little A model gascaps for my BT - they were at the top of my "Wants" list for about seven years, but I'm looking forward to being able to use them for their intended purpose someday. God only knows what a gallon of 100 octane will cost by then.

Espana's is great! Also if you like Basque foos and are ever in town you have to hit up the Wool Grower's Union. The best Basque food in the valley hands down and lots of home style family atmosphere.

By the way Dan, the best time to come is the Dinner Dance on June 9th. We are going to have tickets for sale in the next few days via the website. Should be a couple of B-25Js there along with the usual gathering of trainers. We don't usually get any fighters because the length of the strip (or lack there of) but many times in the past the guys over at Hollister with the P-51s have done some flyovers. We have had a Bearcat, SBD, Corsair but you just never know who or what will show up it is sort of fun that way. It is the most relaxed event in CA where people have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the aircraft, have cocktails, great steak or chicken dinner, big band, dancing lots of people dress up in period attire. All proceeds go to restoring the airfield.

Like Randy, I get to fly and fiddle with lots of CAF stuff...I sold my Harvard (after twenty five years, sniff, sniff) but now have the only "QCG-1B drone controller" Swift in the country. Well, actually, there never was a QCG-1B Swift in the military, but it makes a good story.

I also get to be CAF Airsho chairman and serve on the CAF General Staff, so I'm a major target for lots of things!

Wow! Now for me this is one of the reasons I love war birds. The people. Some of you folks are very, very involved indeed. I would have to assume that if you are reading this you have a love for aviation. My point in this thread is to show the other folks out there that if they want to get actively involved they can.

My wing of the CAF participates in some of the largest air shows on the west coast. Edwards, Magu, Miramar, Luke, Nellis and Lemoore to name a few. I work several of these shows. If I had a nickel for every person that walked up to me and said “boy I wish I could do what you guys do”, I could retire! Wait a minute I am retired. Oh well, my point is that we need people to know that they can join us. We need them. Most people think that they have to be pilots or A/Ps to join. In fact most CAF members are neither. We need people from all backgrounds. We need people of all ages. And yes we need money. What we do is very, very expensive especially for those organizations that fly. Bottom line?

We need to promote. We need to recruit. Anyone with a desire to get involved in this can.

I helped Tom K. the message board moderator for the 1941HAG message board in gaining more activity for the board. I helped load and transport a Grasshopper and worked on B-17 Memphis Belle once. I also donated money for B-29 Doc and for 1941HAG in Geneseo as well.. Thats about it for me.

Work and fly our AC-47 (lately it has been more work than fly and do fund raising for it) I am getting close to finishing my Big project a B-52D I already have the control wheel and the engine instrument panel
