i know this should be under off topic discussions, but i think this should be under the most hit category after what happened today in cleveland. scenario......... 29 degrees sunny, no wind. civil air traffic flying as normal but unusual weather conditions made jet contrails more prevelant to the eye sight. enter a moronic radio disc jockey who started receiving calls from people seeing all the contrails. i saw them 40 miles west of cleveland, & it looked like an airshow. people started calling in, & in short order panic prevailed that the usaf was intercepting a hijacked plane, terrorists were spraying poison over cleveland, on & on. in short order the news media had to make announcements to calm people down. the disc jockey acted recklessly. i can understand what people were thinking, because i wondered too, but you can't speak on conjecture of what's happening on something this serious if you don't have the facts. the disc jockey will be raked over the coals undoubtly, & well deserved, but it also bodes poorly for the dept of homeland security to let the panic get as far as it did.

Ya know, that wouldn't happen in the great state of Indiana

I work the overnight shift at an AM radio station, and we carry Coast to Coast (formerly the Art Bell show.) I can't believe all the idiots I've heard going on and on about what they call "chem-trails." Sopposedly it's all a big plot by the gub-mint (or new world order, or Illuminati, or whoever.) They're spraying us with mind-control gas, or some sort of weather modification chemicals to combat global warming, or mass inocculations, or trying to make us all sick to keep the pharmaceutical companies in business.

Sometimes I wonder if putting phone lines in trailer parks was such a great idea...

I usually listen to 100.1 WKNR and the guys on there were making fun of all the hype over it. When people first started talking about it, they called the manager of Akron Canton Airport, who explaned the "science" behind it. After that, they kept talking about how silly everything was and how stupid people were acting. I guess one of the Cleveland news stations had a special part on their web site dedicated to it!!! :?

I just thought it looked cool all day! One thing weird I saw was a plane that make about a 120* turn right, go straight for a while and then pretty much make an exact 90* turn right again. Bit odd, but it looked cool to see a right angle jet stream! :D

Freedom of speech means you (and I) can sound off here. It's got nothing to do with trumpeting professional errors, and as an aviation writer, if I had a penny for each time I didn't write something that'd embarrass myself, a pilot, engineer or aviation organisation, ~ letssee ~ I'd have $14.38c

Don't worry, it'll be remembered along with a certain Orson Wells' War of the Worlds...

What is worrying is the ability for the news media to talk about 'seizing' F-14's you couldn't actually move without dynamite...

The explanation is simple, it was a sunny day and folks in Cleveland, never having seen such a thing, walked outside, looked up and panicked. Then Russ Limpboy promptly blamed it on John Kerry, and local Demonuts said it must have something to do with Scooter Libby. The Army cleared the air by blaming it on the one gay soldier in Ohio.

We see those nice pretty, puffy contrails up here on occasion, too. Especially on the days when all the Trans-Atlantic flights are inbound, the sky is just full. I was out looking at them one day when a guy came up to me and asked if I wasn't worried about, not contrails, but, Chem-trails?! It seems our Govrnment is secretly spraying us with toxic chemicals on a regular basis. He was really worried and then a woman came walking by and She started talking about them. Anyone else have another alternative to plain old contrails?!  :?

I suppose now THEY will be watching ME now.......................................................................................Be afraid, Be VERY AFRAID!!!!!
I just couldn't keep my big mouth shut.......
