How many B-17's?

12 CURRENTLY airworthy (this excludes Texas Raiders and Evergreen's, neither of which are classed as currently active). So Collings is 9, Miss Angela is 10, the other 2 are in Europe (there is life outside the US, you know! )

DaveM2 - I thought Paul Allen was starting to have his airworthy planes do some flying. The registry says its in restoration to airworthy, but it looked like a new plane when it flew out of Florida to Washington.

The last I heard, it was being 're-restored', although the work was put on hold some time back - I'm not sure if it has restarted.

Steve, if i remember correctly Aluminum Overcast was not there.

Yeah- Overcast was still being put back together so it didn't make it to TOM 05.

Also note that someone mentioned Pink Lady in Europe, but I have heard that its flying status is questionable now due to the same insurance issues that almost grounded SallyB. Anyone have any updates

Currently, that airframe is in a jig, and was basically being
rebuilt. Work stopped a year or two years ago. A rumor
I heard was that Paul Allen would sell if the price was right.

Thanks, DryMartini. Seems strange, since it was completely redone, looked stunning, and was then flown transcon.

So with Texas Raiders and the 2 that Mr. Reilly is restoring (Georgia and Ohio), shouldn't be too long before 13 Forts can be put up. What a sight that would be.

I am still boggled by the fact that the B-17E was completely torn-down piece by piece after it had been restored a few years earlier. Was the work not up to standards?

Man it was a gorgeous plane in its natural livery.


I wish I knew who to credit for this sweet shot.
