In the '80s and '90s, it seemed like at every airshow I attended in Texas, a certain TBM was always there. It was owned and flown by a very friendly CAF Colonel, Bob Schneider, who always made time to visit and answer any questions anyone had. He was based in East Texas, I think. Never see or hear anything about this Avenger anymore. Anyone know if he still owns it, or if not, where the plane is based now? Thanks.

270 - When talking to him at a fly-in at Lancaster, TX, if I understood him correctly, he had just gotten the plane back after loaning it to Tallichet for a couple of years. I think he said thats why his landing was a little rusty.

According to the "Warbird Directory" it is now on display at the George Bush Library, Texas A&M Campus, College Station, TX. It is TBM-3 BuNo 63229, N7236C.

Sorry Bill, wrong airplane.... Bob had TWO Avengers..... The flyer was sold to Mr Gary Applebaum, who later sold the bird to Mr Yagen...... The second TBM he had in his shop down in Hawkins, Tx (along with the PBY, Hurricane, and Panther) is the one currently on display at the Bush Memorial Library.
From the Wix Registry N-7030C... Bob was flying this airplane for many years..... I'll have to look (when I have time) back on video... but this airplane was not on display in Corpus Christi for all of those years listed.... (by the directory), as Bob was flying that bird all over the country... Alan

Valdez25 - I certainly hope that is not the case. He is one of a small group that over my 30+ years of warbird interest stands out to me from the rest for his down-to-earth friendliness, courtesy, and just being a pleasure to talk warbirds and visit with. The others being every young fellow I ever talked to at POF in Chino, although I haven't been there in about 15 years, and a fellow from Mississippi that worked at Breckenridge. And although I don't know him personally, Gary reminds me of these guys. Yes, there is the other end of the pole also, but fortunately only a couple that I have encountered. I sure hope what you heard about Bob is not true.
