Hi all

here are two shots of "Flak Bait" seen here shortly after VE-Day (Summer 1945) at the former German Luftwaffe airfield Gablingen.... scans from originals in my collection... they came with a bunch of other interesting shots, showing a variety of USAAF aircraft types, and some German wrecks...

when I find time, I will try to clean up these images...

Sweet! The Marauder has always been one of my faves. I just hope that when the NASM finally gets around to reassembling Flak Bait, they leave her in her original paint.

It just amazes me that bird survived. They should make a movie about that plane!

I still have the Model Kit! Who has a camcorder?

I think the NASM does plan tp leave her in the original paint when it is restored.

I didn't think the NASM planned on puting Flak Bait back together anytime soon? Afterall, haven't they had it dissassembled since WWII?

They are eventually, but we are not likely to see it in the next ten years.

Yes,
Capt. Sherman Best is still with us. He's a good friend and I ocassionally take him up flying since he's not current. He flew 16 of his 63 missions on "Flak-Bait".
Sherman still rides a motorcycle around town at 86!
Unfortnuately, his beloved wife Jinny, past away suddenly two weeks ago. Very sad.

I'm not sure any of the other crews who flew "Flak-Bait" are still around.
Jim Farrell, the pilot who first named the ship, passed away a few years ago.
Four years ago, Sherman was one of the honored guests at MAAM WWII Commemorative Weekend. Check out
http://flakbait.b26marauder.com/
for some more info on Sherman and "Flak-Bait".

Blue skies,
Jerry
