I remember seeing the CAF Henkiel, when i was young. Thankfully before the tragic accident.

I am wondering, what CASA HE-111 or original 111's are in restoration/storage and are candidates for becoming flyable?

Where did the 30 something CASA HE-111's from the BoB movie go?

Many were scrapped, several ended up in museums in Europe, a few came to the US, one crashed on the delivery flight from Spain to the UK sadly claiming the life of the crew including the late, great Neil Williams. Cavanaugh has one (ex-Tallichet) which may one day be a candidate to fly again, probably the only one.

I was also lucky enough to see the CAF's CASA at a show, and walked through it. I can still remember it like it was yesterday.

I would love to see another one some day.

I'm stilling hoping on a few CASA's being saved somehow in Spain, maybe they'll be discovered in the future and hopefully will be recovered.

A list of survivors can be found here (look under 'German Aircraft', 'Heinkel', 'He111')

It looks as though 11 complete ones plus a pair of partial airframes / nose sections have survived.

Paul Allen has 2 airframes, although I don't think they're actively being worked on at present.

I wonder what plans if any the Natl Museum of the USAF has for their CASA?

Anyone have any status or info on the Austrian example under restoration to fly?




Eventually it will be converted to have Jumo 211s, according to the Preserved Axis Aircraft site.

Mustangdriver may have more specific (and recent) info, but a rep from the museum gave a seminar at an IPMS show back in the mid 90s, and said they had gotten a pair of Jumos salvaged from a Hienkel that ditched in Norway, and they would be used to "backdate" the Casa to an He-111. I haven't heard anything more about the project for several years.

Obviously, with limited time and resources the museum has to pick and chose what to restore, and what to put on the back burner.

Think theres one at duxford uk being rebuilt maybe to fly but its a long term project!

Yes, it's at Duxford, no, it's not going to fly, and no, it's not being worked on. Now owned by the IWM, it's in storage as all their efforts are currently being focused on British types to go in the new AirSpace building. I'm sure they'll do an excellent job when it gets around to its turn in the queue for rebuild.

Was that the one that appeared in 'Piece of Cake', the fuselage standing in for a 'downed' Heinkel ?

I will be honest with you and say that I really haven't heard of any plans for it as of yet. Now with the Belle here, all assets are on that. I am sure that we will see a bunch of stuff come into the shop as soon as the belle is finished.

Isn't there still an original He-111 with the RAF Hendon Museum? I seem to recall I have pictures of it when I visited back in the 80's when the museum was still in the original location.
