Rob/Merlin--

In the old album lent to me, there were dates for about two thirds of the photos; the TBF shots, though, later on in the album, are undated. I transcribed all the caption/date info, though, and given that the pix are consecutive, I believe the TBF belly landing to have happened about March 1945. Could be February too...so either Auburn-Lewiston or Brunswick could be possible as the base of the Avenger at the time.

Here are a few that I scanned for a friend of my father. They were taken aboard HMS Victorious.

I think not John, and they weren't taken by Ernie either, he just had them in his album.

I'm still sorting out my diary for the time when you're in the UK, I'll be in touch soon.

Cheers, Rob

Steve T. any up date on the photo?

Tue Aug 31, 2004 9:49 pm

Hi Merlin--

Yep, two of the TBF shots plus two of the Walrus (and three of Ethiopian AF Firefly 1s) are in at the lab now being scanned to CD. Am picking them up tomorrow. Was offline since Saturday BTW...

My shots are going to be a mite anticlimactic after the carrier-deck views Robbo's posted though! Superb stuff.

Cheers

RN carrier

Nice shot of the carrier tied up near Bradley's Head in Sydney. If you look carefully at the headland immediately behind the ship you will see the observation tower from the WW1 RAN cruiser, HMAS Sydney....it is still there today...

I see those Avenger shots and am amazed that I own and fly one today 60 years after the 'big event'!

Fleet Air Arm photos

Sat Oct 16, 2004 7:09 pm

Gentlemen,

The National Archives at College Park, MD have a large selection of Fleet Air Arm photos taken at Brunswick, Maine showing RN Corsairs. They are all air-to-air shots. I made a listing of the photo numbers and will try to locate and post these on this web site.

Yours very truly,
Norman Malayney
