gun camera

I'm not sure if the gun camera in the nose would make it a earlier J model. Late J's and L's had the gun camera in the left wing pylon. Camera in the nose suffered greatly from the vibration of the guns firing and picture quality was very poor. Over to the experts.

Speaking of gun cameras and P-38s, I've always wondered something that I've never seen addressed or even mentioned in all the books and articles I've read about that April 18, 1943 mission: why in the HEYALL didn't the Yamamoto intercept Lightnings carry gun camera film?!

It had to be a special deal where they didn't have film available at Guadalcanal at the time or something like that. Would have put things to bed before they became issues later . . .
