I have just committed to a Fine Scale Model ME 109 and they told me I could choose the paint scheme. I am trying to find the scheme that was flown by Gunther Rall and then I would try to get him to personalize it somehow. But I do not have any idea what his aircraft looked like.

I am not as knowledgeable on German aircraft as our own so I am needing some help. I have a lot of time as they usually take 6 months to a year to build a model.

Any ideas would be appreciated

I don't know if I understand your question Mgeorge51? Rall is certainly a well documented ace, easy to google. Were you thinking of a certain period in his service that you're interested in representing on your model? Fine Art ought to have a healthy database to work from given the quality of their models...

Here's a picture I did of Rall's plane. (Kinda low res, but the angle limits its usefulness, anyway) It is actually a pretty typical 109, without much embellishment. Note that he flew several models of 109, and their paint schemes may have differed. This is a G-2:

Here's a useful profile of it:

I have seen it depicted with and without the yellow under the nose.

Do a search for ME109 and decals...you should get some decal sheets pop up, which can be helpful when finding specific markings. Rall also wrote a biography, which was ghost written and not all that informative, but might prove useful when determining what sort of planes he flew and has a few photos in it. I'm sure OSprey publications has some good stuff, too. Good luck!

I've always loved those Fine Art Models ... I'm gonna steal one someday!

Go to Hyperscale.com's PLANE TALKING forum. Post your inquiry there and you'll have some of the world's leading "markings" experts supply you with all the information you'll ever need. Great community of folks. They've helped me out tremendously over the years.

Let us see it when you get it.

Is it a Bf 109 G-6 that your bought or an F? Their website shows a G-6. If you bought an F, I can provide some help.

Please remember that there were many different types of 109's manufactured so for accuracy it is important to match up the scheme to the correct variant.

If you PM me your e-mail address I can send you some pics. I have a profile pic of a G-6 that Rall flew.

I bought one of the FG-1D Corsairs last year, absolutely love it. Considering getting a Mustang as well. Please post or send pics when you get it.

Regards,
Mike

Drop me a line direct at the109lair at yahoo dot com... I just completed the second Modellers Datafile on the Bf 109 (224 pages worth), so I've got a few things I can help you with. :)
