The WIX Band

Just wondering if any my fellow WIXers are musicians, or semi-musically inclined. I was running a test roll of film through a second hand Canon Rebel I just bought for my daughter and shot some pictures of some of my guitars and amps and thought, "Who can I force to look at these?!" and here they are! 
Not my best work but then again I rarely take indoor photos!

I'm there with you on the 335, Don...nice guitar.
I haven't played for years, but I used to deal in old electrics to help pay my way through college. There was a certain early-60's Gretsch Tennessean I sure wish I'd kept...what a sound.
Now I'm married with children and a mortgage. If the kids only knew their old man used to play slide guitar chainsaw music!

Wow! Awsome set there. I play acoustic, but want to do some electric.

I've never played one of those, Dan, although there was this arch-topped, f-hole, single pickup Kay I got ahold of years ago that played like a dream and sounded even sweeter. I've never seen one since....... I've been playing for about 37 years, the Univox being the first electric I bought in 1973. Like you, Dan, after I got married, I kind of let it slide, although I never completely stopped. I kept an old acoustic laying around the house and would pull it out when no one was around, or on the rare occasion when one of my friends would bring theres over. I basicaly let myself stagnate for about 10 or 12 years. But, 2 divorces later, I came back and found a some new guys to play with(one I've know for 20 years, didn't know he played......). We have a lead and rhythm guitar, bass(me) and drums. It gets us out of the house once a week and once in a blue moon we even go out and play a cookout or two. Mostly, we just have fun and bitch about how bad we sound or who made the most mistakes.
MD- Keep strummin' that acoustic! But if you want to plug in there are some pretty decent low end guitars and amps out there these days. A friend of mine works in a music store and that's all they sell are low-end brands that I've never heard of, but, he keeps me trying them out and they aren't bad for the price($100-$200) He plays nothing but Gibson Les Pauls in several local bands and even he is impressed!

You're really dusting off some cobwebs, Don. Remember, I couldn't afford to OWN any of this stuff at the time, but it was fun buying and selling because I got to try out a lot of vintage stuff.
You said "Kay" and I immediately pictured this foam-green Kay Speed Demon that I only had my hands on for a couple of weeks. That guitar killed me since it was the exact color of my parents' '60's-vintage vinyl kitchen chairs! It seemed to like the Marshall 50 watt I had at the time though.

I've got a few...
Epiphone sorrento with TV Jones pickups. Sounds really really good. The stock p-90s suck in comparison.
Left to Right... First 2 are '89 Westone from my hair band days. I did the art on both. The middle one I built from an old Electra. The ghost flame is my tattoo in metallic copper. The orange one is another Epiphone sorrento, also with TV Jones pickups. It is my main guitar and sounds better than the gold one, which is a bit disappointing to me. I meant for the gold one to be the main one. I could aways switch pickups I guess. The LP copy is an old '70s Cortez from Japan. Great guitar, although I only play it for about 30 minutes per year.
The bottom Fender is a '69 Fender Kingman Wildwood. Pretty rare. The doubleneck is a Danelectro reissue, which I sold a while back. I never liked the tone and it was a novelty guitar really.

We go into the studio for our second cd at the end of the month.

Let's see now, we've got three guitars, a bass and a brass section...............Now all we need is a Hammond organ, a harp and a little precussion(Should be an interesting sound, a cross of rockabilly, heavy metal, southern rock and surf, hummmm....)and, oh yeh, a couple of Foxy Back-Up Singers(lets see, Who on the WIX would volunteer.....) and I'm thinking the next
Great WIX Meeting of the Minds and Clam Bake will have a house band to rock the night away or at least untill we reach our 2100hr bedtimes! 
That's an intersting sound you've got, Django. I definitly hear the Stray Cats influence. You've got some nice axes, too.
Dan, I know how you feel about all the guitars gone, I kind of went through classic cars in a similar fashion when I was a young pup and would kill to have just one of those gems now! Glad I decided to hang on to the guitars at least!
