Atually, I think it may have been a B-26. Although since it was the title of a popular Edward G. Robinson gangster movie, the name may have been carried by more than one aircraft.

This profile is from Osprey's "B-26 Marauder Units of the 8th & 9th AF."

Nose art was killed long before Desert Storm. If anything, noseart made a minor 'comeback' during ODS that was repeated during OEF and OIF after 9/11.

It's currently not allowed on fighters.

So how did you manage painting up your Eagle at SJ? Was it because they saw it as a historical tie? That's what I figured but I could see them allowing such a thing.

Well, before the war started I pitched the idea to my Squadron Commander. He liked it, and told me that as soon as bombs started falling, I could go for it.

From his perspective, I am guessing he understood the leadership above him -- what they would accept once combat operations started and what they would not accept. Squadron Commanders have a HUGE amount of latitude to do this type of stuff, but unfortunately so many are too concerned about making their next rank that they don't want to take risks, for fear that they'll piss somebody off.

Hey Randy, what is the nose art on your Eagle. Sorry if this is someplace else on the forum.

This thread has photos of the chronology of the painting, too.

That is so wild Randy. The eagle emblem is one of my favorite pieces of nose art. I actually haad a lady carve this into stone infront of my house. I also have a decal set to model your aircraft!

I think this is a serious problem among most career field grade officers no matter what branch of the armed forces they're in. I've seen it numerous times myself.

Awesome nose art randy and thanks for sharing it! 8)
