Been there, done that, at Goose Bay on a C-130, without the shelter in minus 35 degree F. I could only work for about 10 minutes before getting warmed up again. It SUCKS!

Good point, Jack. We certainly do b*tch and complain if the heaters don't work, or if the lights in the hangar go out and I fall off of the stand and get a concussion as a result of it , but there's no way in heck we'll ever have it as bad as those guys out in the field in W.W. II.

Those ground crew guys are without a doubt some of my heros.

It's not a P-40 at all... 'tis a P-36... unless they sent the XP-40 up to winterland, which I doubt.

I knew there were P-36's and B-18's in Alaska when war started for the U.S.. But I have never seen any pictures of them. You guys are right though. It's not a P-40E. It's eithor a P-40B/C or a P-36.

Definitely not a P-40 of any sort. I don't believe that the XP-40 was ever sent to Alaska, and I only mentioned it (somewhat in jest) because that was the only P-40 which had the same pointed rear quarter windows as the P-36.

So there is absolutely no question whatsoever that this is a P-36.
