Regarding Fireflys; there used to be 3 in Sweden. Within the past year or so, all 3 left. One (DT989, SE-BRG) is at Duxford, one (PP469, SE-CAU) is in Lelystad, Holland and one (PP392, SE-CAW) is on long term loan to the Danish Air Museum but still belonging to the Swedish Air Force Museum.
There might still be 2-3 left in Ethiopia.

Bill et al--

WD840 was "complete" in that there had been one of everything in place. But...having been the former Bob Diemert (yeah, he of The Defender) "troop transport Firefly" CF-CBH, some of the components were not, strictly speaking, quite standard for a Firefly AS.6...or any other Firefly. Most particularly, the engine (and cowl, spinner, et al) came from an Avro York, hence it was not the correct version of Griffon; in fact of course it was not a Griffon at all! The rads had been removed from the wings and faired-over (since the York Merlin QEC had that big chin rad already) and, of course, there were six seats in the observer's compartment. CF-CBH essentially resembled a Firefly Mk.I but with the wide-chord later fin and rudder. Not really unattractive...but not something the RNHF would want around, either! I saw the stripped airframe at Lone Star ages ago. Hope someone makes a go of WD840. An idea: attach a Shack engine, contraprop and all. (Not standard, I know; but it wasn't standard on the PoF Spit 19 either and nobody'd say she wasn't a cool piece of kit...)

S.

Anybody have ANY pix of WD840 in any condition. Nobody seems to miss it down on the island.

I've got at least one from a visit in the early 90s. I'll try to dig it out over the weekend.
