Warbird Information Exchange

Hi all -- just registered. Great site. I bought Princess back in November and by the time the export, customs, etc. was done she arrived at Steve Hinton's place about a month ago. She's all together and the paperwork is moving along. Hopefully we can get the Airworthiness Cert in the next two weeks or so, and then I'll be bringing her back. Bald Eagle is also out at Chino (Shipley took it there after the HF conference) so we'll bring them back as a two ship. Steve has done a really good job getting her together and the good news is that she's been parked next to Glacier Girl for the last few weeks so maybe some of that good P-38 mojo will rub off onto her???

If I can figure out how to upload a photo I'll post a few.

Greg I'll let you know when we're coming back and hopefully we can coordinate. Jim

I remember seeing you guys way back in 1997 or 98. Back when it was Frenisi and Big Beautiful Doll.

The act was awsome! Especially since Mustang Sally was playing in the background. I hope to see you and the Princess soon. Will she be ready for Thunder?

Hi Chris -- I hope to have her back for Langley this month; Shipley and I are scheduled to fly the two ship Horsemen act there. We'll bring Bald Eagle and Princess and also do the HF with Max in the Raptor and with Ed in his Sabre.

I would hope that the paperwork is done by September for the Gathering, and things seem to be moving well. We'll see.

Frenesi is really apart and will probably be down for another year. Wings are at Aero Trader for overhaul and the fuselage is at our hangar in Chester County. We just put the firewall on and are fitting the motor mount now. Barrow is basically done the engine and I imagine it'll be ready to go on the test stand soon.

Princess with Glacier Girl

Awsome looking aircraft! Its nice to see another razorback. Its a shame there arn't more of them.

Jim. Is flying a razorback mustang that much different than flying a D? What is your opinion?

Some will yell at you for calling it a razorback -- that term is for the early P-47s that had a different shaped (kinda pointy) backbone. Many say the bird cage mustangs are faster and a lot of guys in WW2 chose to keep them instead of "upgrading" to the D/K.

All of my time is in D/K and haven't yet flown the B/C; looking forward to it though!

Yeah i bet! The A/B/C models always seem to be faster looking and more streamlined. She we be loved at any show she goes to! Guarantee that.

Any temptation to redo the C model as "Bald Eagle" since that's what the original was?

Might be interesting to have the D model done up as one of those other yellow nose D models to go with it since you guys fly those two ships so well

Hi Dan: I'm going to keep her in her Princess colors; Stephen Grey's crew did such a good and authentic scheme I don't think I could get as good a job, particularly as they were painting her as she was going together.

The "real" Bald Eagle scheme is very cool (with the green and the eggshell blue stripes on the cowl and the wingtips) but we've had the "D" Bald Eagle as she is since 1980, modified to bare metal when Dan Caldarale repainted her in 1994, so it's kinda a tradition thing with that bird. Who knows with time, though.

I was thinking it might be cool to play with water colors when Frenesi is flying so we can do a few different schemes over time (like they do with the movie planes) and then powerwash off the paint when we want to change colors. I'm sure it's harder than a few cans of water colors, a spray gun, and a case of beer, but it's worth a try. That could be fun and we could even brush on the invasion stripes like they did back in the day. Jim

Very cool to hear that Jim. Ive often thought of if warbird owners and operators were to work together and "repaint" there aircraft for certain events and occasions.

Case in point, all the B-25's going to Thunder this year. If someone was to organize it, maybe we could see the Doolittle raiders fly again so to speak?

I'm curious- which airplane type will be/was utilized for the winner of the silent auction bid? We didn't have anything even remotely close to being as cool as this to bid on at my kid's school fund raiser. I was at the wrong event!

Thanks about ASB. Shipley did a nice job getting it together. It's got what we like to call "ADD theater" as my attention span can't watch something longer than about 2 minutes
