My choice would've been, and still is (if they ever do a Doolittle Bio),
Stanley Tucci.
He looks more like Doolittle than Ed Harris or Bob Hoskins and could pull off the job with ease.
Jerry

I personally think Bob Hoskins would play Doolittle a little to "salty" and is maybe a little to "oldish" for Doolittle who although was WWI veteran during WWII he was always very fit and had a very youthful energy. Stanley Tucci could probably pull it off although for some reason I can't really think of him as a "good guy" he seems like he is always Lucky Luciano or Frank Nitti or someone like that lol. I think Ed Harris could play Doolittle well. He has the look, and I think he has the ability to pull off Doolittle's inspiring personality in a believable way especially when you look at the Abyss role and Apollo 13. I don't know I guess I'm kind of picky Doolittle is my ultimate aviation hero, or should I say SUPER hero.

Well, be careful what you wish for because it is set for release on the 5th of June 2007!

Now all we need is for the Dam Buster to be re-issued!

BTW, what about the B-17 scene in Heavy Metal? If you are in my age bracket you have to remember that one!

Ed Harris would have been an excellent Doolittle. But the Raid still is silly in the context of the movie.

I know at least one of you guys (besides me) has a copy of The Last Flight of Noah's Ark.

I really didn't care for Thin Red Line. Was was good about it? Convince me I'm wrong... :o

That movie was terrible. I can prove it in 4 words. Travolta, Penn, Clooney, and Harrelson. Casting is a huge part of making a movie convincing and the casting in this movie could not have been worse.

It was an arty farty movie. I liked it for that. The one thing I also liked it for the combat scenes. It seemed like the heavier it got, the quieter it got.

In my own lame experiences, when sh1t got that tight, everything got quiet kinda like that. Just doing your thing, what you were trained for. You're super hyped, shaking, but you move, and do it.

The other thing was, that it wasn't as big as it seemed to be, the experience. Thats looking at it afterwords. The combat scene's weren't giant kill fest's, with a half a zillion guys rushing a machine gun. It was some shooting, and some guys trying to stop it. Ones and twos

I never seen guys blowed up like that, or been in that kind of combat, but, what happens in my head when I see those scene's...well, everything slows down and gets quiet in my head, and I start thinking about other stuff sometimes.

As far as the arty farty part of it. The lead in that flick reminds me of me, a lifer slacker... thank jeebus I didn't get killed for it though....

The most realistic war movie I have ever seen is Das Boot. I can say that from experience, and Airnutz probably can too.

I've been wishing for years for a film on Pappy Boyington. Not the farce that the TV series was, but a nitty, gritty true telling of his story. You wouldn't have to change anything, it's got it all: flying, sex, brawling, drinking, flying, insubordination, more drinking, more sex, flying, etc. I thought Powers Booth would have been great a few years ago as Pappy, but he's a little long in the tooth now. Currently I can't think of anyone, they're mostly girly-men.

The first time I watched the Thin Red Line I hated it. But then seeing it again I really started to like it. The opening with Travolta is the worst part. But later on Nolte really give a first rate performance as the commander. He would have made a good Pappy. :)

Hmm...

Most of the good'uns have already been listed, but here's a few more:

Civil War -

Gettysburg

WWI -

Lawrence of Arabia
The Lighthorsemen

WWII -

12 O'Clock High

Korea -

Bridges at Toko-Ri <sp>

Cold War -

Jet Pilot
Strategic Air Command

But that's just my preferences, I s'pose...

I remember them cutting out the tail cone on the plane and mounting a machine gun back there.

Anyone?

That would be the the legendary "AIRFORCE" from 1943!

No, please tell me you're kidding. Well, actually I can think of worse choices, if he can leave his politics at the door. If they do actually make a movie, for god's sake use a -1A or D and clone the rest with c.g.

Not exactly; I just taped the crash landing when it ran on TV. I also have the infamous issue of Air Classics that had nearly its entire contents dedicated to articles on the making of this picture (including a LOT of pressbook fluff).
