Suggestions for a trip to Baltimore, MD?

My office is sending me to a seminar in Baltimore and being completely unfamiliar with the area, I wondered if you guys might be able to tell me if there are any good warbird museums, shows, etc., out that way. I will be there from roughly July 23-26. I, of course, will also check the internet, but thought this might also be a good resource.

Hi Stephanie,
I live in the Washington-Baltimore area. There is nothing really to speak of in Baltimore, but plenty around DC (20 miles away). Obviously, there is the NASM in the heart of DC, and there are a few interesting aeroplanes at the Navy Yard in Anacostia (not a safe area though). Slightly further away is the NASM's Udvar-Hazy center near Dulles airport. On the north side of Washington DC, in College Park, MD is nice museum of early aviation. Forget the proper title, but it's at the College Park airport. There is also the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia... about 40 miles from Baltimore. They have some nice aircraft on show, including two corsairs, wildcat, Avenger etc. If you have any questions, please let me know. I'd be happy to help out if I can.

They are obviously holding the seminar in the wrong place. With the dates you mentioned, they should have held your meeting at a certain little town in Wisconsin, "B gosh".

I completely agree! I am trying to figure out a way to do all the things I want, extend the trip a bit and still see D.C., and make it to OSH for at least a day or two!

My fingers are crossed that it will work out. If not, hopefully I will make it to TOM, we shall see.

Hey Stephanie, as U get off the plane and head to baggage claim there is a bi-plane(Alexander Eaglerock or a Bird?) hanging from the ceiling but if I remember right it's @ an angle so taking photo's is not that bad. Sorry for not remembering what kind it is, maybe Mike's locater can help, still neat though so have your camera with U! have fun in Baldymoore!

Hey Steph I was at the Glenn L. Martin Museum that time I talked to you. I was deathly sick while there, but it was cool. Smal museum with about 6 or 7 planes. Of course NASM is awsomw and only a 30 min. train ride from Inner Harbor to D.C.

No, that is a new one to me. I have never been to Baltimore. Which airport?

Mike, Reagan National I think is the name now, formerly Baltimore-Washington Intl. BWI.

Actually BWI and Reagan are two different airports. BWI is between the two cities and somewhat closer to Baltimore. If you are flying in to Baltimore you will most likely come in here. Reagan National is right on the Potomac the border of DC, near Arlington Cemetery.

I would be curious to find out where the aircraft in questions is hanging as I have flown out of both of those airports several times in the last year and have not noticed it. Usually I am trying to catch a plane or get home so I haven't really looked for it either.

Not sure about the bi-plane Steve was talking about, but there is a replica of a Pan Am China Clipper (Martin M-130) hanging from the ceiling in the main terminal area.
