P-40 Qhestion

Wed Apr 11, 2007 8:32 pm

Hello All,

After completing advanced training, my Dad logged about 10 hrs in
P-40N's at Napier Field in Alabama around September 1944. He recalls that they had a red parrot's head painted on the nose. Does anyone have
any photos of these ships? Thanks.

I don't care for these models much but check this out:

There's also some really good photos of these ships in Jeffrey Ethell's book P-40 Warhawk in World War II Color.[/u]

Thats a great paintjob. Surprised no one has used it on a restored P-40.

Thanks for the great pictures. My Dad is still around, and at 82, still comes in to work every morning at 6:30 and still occasionally flies too.
He enjoyed seeing the pictures. He said that the parrott's name was
"Gruffy". The P-40 pilots had their own frequency at Napier called "Gruffy contol". Thanks again.
