Student Arrested Over Va. Tech Remarks
By Associated Press

BOULDER, Colo. - A University of Colorado student was arrested after making comments that classmates deemed sympathetic toward the gunman blamed for killing 32 students and himself at Virginia Tech, authorities said.

Quote:
During a class discussion of Monday's massacre at Virginia Tech, the student "made comments about understanding how someone could kill 32 people," university police Cmdr. Brad Wiesley said.

I think this is going to get out of hand. I don't think he actually made any threats. I know the country is shocked, but this is not the solution.

The same mentality that saw an elementary school kid expelled from school, because he drew a gun?

As despicable as this guys comments are, IMHO his rights under the first ammendment have been trampled.

The first amendment while protecting the freedom of speech is not all that many believe it is. The speech in the first amendment that is protected primarily is political speech, speech and writings in opposition of the government. It also does not include threatening speech or similar. It is not legal to make verbal threats to individuals and it isn't meant to protect your right to be able to falsely shout fire in a crowded theater. I suggest reading Schenck v. United States.

So, where in your example is stated that a f**ked up individual cannot say that he is for the korean killer? As despicable as it may sound, he should be able to express his opinion. The opposite would be IMHO, to give a prize to everyone who expresses his or her rejection and condemns the killer?

In the case of the kid who threatened to kill 100, your point could not be have been made more clear; that was a threat and of course as a precaution, he is under arrest until it is determined what is going on in his 14 year old mind.

Again, just my opinion; don't care to try to convince you, don't care to let you try to convince me; just my opinion.

And no, I have no readings to suggest to you.

Saludos,

Tulio
