If any of you guys and gals are members of the museum and get the Friend's Journal, please be sure to check out my interview with Gen. Yeager in this month's issue. The museum did a sweet job with it.

I am both a member and a museum volunteer.

In addition, I went to basic training at Sampson AFB back in the early 50's. If I remember correctly, Chuck Yaeger's brother was in my flight.

I too am both a member and a museum volunteer. I just recieved a copy of the Journal this week. I volunteer over in Restoration. Currently working on restoring the Kawanishi N1K-2 Shiden Kai "George 21" WWII fighter, which has top priority in Restoration. Our Museum Director wants the George to be completed by this coming September, where it will be placed on display under the wing of our B-29 Superfortress "Bockscar" in the Air Power Gallery. All the George's airframe assemblies and main landing gear are being preped for final assembly. In about 2 to 3 weeks we should have a rolling airframe. Today, I installed the newly restored and now fully functioning pair of bomb shackles into the left wing, which took all day to install.

That is awsome. The George is going to be a great looking restoration. Do you know when the Mig is going to be rolled out?

The MiG 29 Fulcrum has all of its marking painted on. Not sure if they are waiting to get some Atoll missiles (Russian Sidewinder copies) to hang under the wings. If so, this may be whats holding up the rollout. Everything else on it looks like its been completed and it looks impressive.

Hi Jim -

A few years ago, the museum took back an AQM-34Q Firebee that had been on display at Pima for years. I understand it was in for restoration about 1-2 years ago. Is that so and is it on display in the museum now? I would like to track it down and do a thorough walk around photo shoot of it for a model.

Yes, the TELEDYNE RYAN AQM-34Q “COMBAT DAWN” FIREBEE has been restored and is now on display hanging from the rafters inside the Modern Flight Gallery. I remember when the guys were still restoring it 2 years ago. They did a great job on it.

We offered the same logo, which the volunteers designed, on a nice Royal Polo Shirt.

I have had the pleasure of volunteering with a gentleman who is one of our greatest generation. On his lapel he wears a B-24 pin as well as one of the 14th AF. In conversation, he told of being a nose gunner on a B-24 during WWII while stationed in China with the 14th AF.

Unknown to him, I decided to do an embroidered hat including all 3. As you can see from the pics, we have a Liberator on the front and the sides we embroidered th 14th AF logo as well as the Hap Arnold Wings.
