I would like a B-17 Fortress or a B-29 Superfortress.

If I could own one airplane and money were no object, I would want the Republic XP-72 Superbolt. I would remove its Pratt & Whitney R-4360-13 Wasp Major pre-production engine and put it in storage. I would install a souped up Pratt & Whitney R-4360-19 production engine thats fitted with several nitrous oxide lines, electronic digital fuel engine controller, a 5 foot diameter centrifugal blower/supercharger unit in the rear fuselage thats connected to the R-4360 accessory housing by means of an old NACA-approved fluid coupling and a 10 foot long extension shaft that runs underneath the cockpit floor boards. The new engine should put out no less than 5,800 horsepower or more. I would then strip the airframe of un-necessary weight to lighten up the airframe. Then I would probably name the plane "Wild Thunder," since it was considered during WWII as the ultimate in P-47 Thunderbolt design. Then I would race the XP-72 in the Reno National Air Races in the Silver and Gold Unlimited Class and hopefully win both races.

Otherwise I would settle on a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt and fly it to Oshkosh and other aviation events throughout the country. :D

As an USAF Vet it would have to be an Air Force plane. That said the Northrup F-89 Scorpion would be my choice.
