JACK'S B-25 TOP TEN LISTS

Fri Oct 29, 2004 7:11 pm

AFTER SEEING ALL THE TOP TEN LISTS LATELY, I DECIDED TO PUT MY LISTS TOGETHER AFTER 5 YEARS WRENCHING AND FLYING ON OUR B-25.
IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE WHAT OTHERS WITH EXPERENCE IN VARIOUS WARBIRDS CAN COME UO WITH.

TOP 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT B-25s
10. HAVING TO CLIMB ACROSS TOP TURRET TO PRE-FLIGHT/REFUEL AIRCRAFT.
9. FALLING OFF AIRCRAFT
8.ALL THAT @#$!!??***#@!! OIL EVERYWHERE!
7.WHEN THINGS GO WRONG THEY REALLY GO WRONG
6. PEOPLE ALWAYS ASKING WHEN WE'RE GOING TO POLISH IT.
5. BANGING MY HEAD ON PROP BLADE
4. 980+ GALLONS OF GAS AT $2.30/GALLON
3. CLEARING OUT ENGINE HYDRAULIC LOCKS
2. CHANGING MAIN GEAR TIRES
1. PILOT SAYING "WE'RE ON FIRE!"

TOP 10 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT B-25s
10. YOU CAN GET PEOPLE TO RIPE OFF OIL BY LETTING THEM SIT IN COCKPIT
9. YOU CAN TRADE YOUR PICTURES FOR RIDES IN SUBJECT AIRCRAFT
8. EVERYONE'S NOW YOUR FRIEND
7. TAKING VETS FOR RIDES
6. IT'S A CHICK MAGNET
5. YOU CAN PILE TONS OF JUNK UNDER IT IN THE HANGER.
4. YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH ONLY WASHING BOTTOM HALF OF THE AIRPLANE
3. YOU CAN SET RECORD FOR MOST NOISE COMPLAINTS IN YOUR AIRPORTS HISTORY.
2. BY DOING A MISSED APPROACH OFF RUNWAY 13 YOU CAN SET OFF ALL CAR ALARMS IN THE KMART PARKING LOT!
1. IT MAKES YOU SEEM COOLER THAT YOU ACTUALLY ARE.

This is great! Does that parking lot thing actually work?

I was at a Travis AFB Air Expo show close to ten years ago, when the demo B-1 Lancer flew down the runway, and near the parking lot with bizzilions of cars, turned up at about a 45 degree angle and fired all four afterburners. Never heard so many car alarms going off at one time in my life

MIKE,
TRUE STORY I SWEAR. WE ALSO HAD 87 NOISE COMPLAINTS IN A 4 HOUR PERIOD WHILE WAYNE WAS FLYING WITH TED STEWART GETTING READY FOR HIS TYPE RATING CHECKRIDE.

Living on a Navy Air Station I learned to hate car alarms. It must be really fun for the pilots to kick a bit of AB over the lots. :x

I know I would

For what it's worth, you can't hear anything from inside the cockpit, so it's much more interesting to listen to outside than inside.

I've had surface-to-air missiles detonate only a couple hundred feet from my canopy and *still* didn't hear anything (unlike what is portrayed in the movies...). A jet cockpit is a very loud place and we're wearing lots of hearing protection.

I only have one complaint about the B-25...that darn big oil filler opening. Quart bottle caps fly right down them and my fat hand is too big to go after it.

Jim,
Try this, it's sure to solve your little problem. Give up on the quart bottles. Try a keg. It won't fit there and you'll have a better ramp party.. (remember though 8 hours from bottle to throttle)
