Was wondering how many PB4Y-2 are being restored to flying status?
I know that Lone Star Flight Museum is well on their way to having a very beautifuly restored one . Are their any one else doing the same ?

Good question. I wish i knew. I hope all the H&P Privateers will get to be restored in mint flyable condtion. But thats just my dream!

Is it possible for the Collings Foundation to purchase one of these and start flying it with the B-17 and B-24? Or do they not have that much money to invest?

I cant wait to see the LSFM B-17 & 4Y fly together one day!! It will also be nice to see the 4Y being escorted by a few of the Navy fighters! 8)

The Yanks PB4Y is being readied for a flight from Wyoming to Chino and I think another one of the H & P PB4Y's is being flown to Arizona from Wyoming. I'm not sure on the status of the other two H & P PB4Y's at this time.

Of the 4 PB4Y-2s up there, one has had the wing repaired, it is one of the two owned by H&P founders. The Yanks and Az plane are in the shop having the crack wing spars repaired. I have seen the cracks and it is a very difficult repair job. I was up there in Dec getting the C-119 and A-26

I love the PB4Y. The Lonestar bird is really looking great. I love the turrets.

Wow! That is looking good!

And those turrets! They look almost new!! Is someone sitting on a stash of these things? Did H&P save all the mil parts off these birds?

Anyone know if the paint scheme will be during ww2 or postwar? I hope its tri-color wartime.

Matt, any idea what the plans are for the one coming to AZ?

Tue May 08, 2007 5:40 pm

As far as the LSFM paint scheme. Last I heard it was still up in the air. We did have a 4Y Vet that volunteered at the museum. Im not sure what group he was with but I believe his 4Y's were overall dark blue. I personally like the tri colored!

Tri color or all dark sea blue. The both look good.

Doesnt matter to me! I'd just like to see it in the air!

I suppose all of these still have the B-25 QECs. If so, will any be converted back to stock, if possible? What are the performance improvements with the R-2600s as opposed to the R-1830s when not lugging around retardent? I suppose that extra 'oomph' makes a big diff with an engine failure too.

Was wondering dose anybody know when the LSFM PBJ- 24 Might be flying again Are we looking at Years from now or maybe some time next year ?

the biggest reason not for restoring a 4Y back with the original engines is the cost. The version of the 1830 the 4Y had is a rare engine and hence expensive. The R-2600 was much cheaper.
