There's low, there's really low, and there's stupid... these guys are way beyond stupid... No wonder I heard stories of US Army guys finding any way possible to not ride with the Germans...

Looks about like the tactical portion of almost every battle drill flight, when I flew the Attack Helicopters for the Army.

What you don't see, is that for every 15-20 min NOE flight in Germany, we did a 1 to 1.5 hour wire recon of the intended route, (same day), before the actual NOE flight, a noise abatement assesment and a 1 hour mission briefing, all for a NOE flight about as long as the one depicted in the video.

Even with all that, we still had 3 wire strikes and 2 fatals in a 4 year tour in Germany. Granted, both were NVG/NOE missions, but the low level enviroment is off the scale from a safety standpoint.

Having done this for several years for a living, I can tell you 2 things about it for sure:

1. I would absolutely love to do it again in one of my warbirds.
2. I never will.

When it comes to low passes, you can only tie the record!

Hmmm... I couldn't finish that. That's just nuts.

If you want to fly 5 feet off the ground, why not do it over a runway where you know it is clear? I know of at least 3 warbird guys killed in wire strikes, and 2 more that barely survived. A friend leading a flight of jets hit a cable 26 feet above a lake, square in the nose and made it back. Had he been a foot lower it would have taken off his canopy and head. He admits to being young and foolish then.
