Spitfire Flight Plan

I plan to go to Galveston Thurs morning where my plane is at Lone Star Flight Museum. I need to wash it and maybe do a practice flight. Then Friday up to Corsicana, land of the pecan trees, for their show on Sat the 12th. I may then leave the plane in Texas on Mon, perhaps in Midland for awhile as they have hangar space. Our airport is closed till mid June to make the runway smooth for G 5s. Anybody know of other Texas area events?

no but you could have asked the vintage flying museum about keeping it there. we are over in fort worth so just a lil hop from corsicana. since the b-25 pacific prowler is out they should have some extra space in front of the b-17. that way i can drool around it at corsicana if i can make it or at the museum. :lol:

That sounds like a great idea!

I don't know of any other local events...it's gonna get pretty warm down here..very soon...

Arishows don't do well in the Texas summers.

Thanks for the suggestion; I'd like to visit Meacham, but Midland seems to have better airline connections back home so that I can leave the plane perhaps a week or two. I don't know if they will have many warbirds at Corsicana, but if the weather cooperates it may be a nice low key event with time to talk to folks and not too much red tape.

Bill, I copied your canopy cover for the TA-4. Doesn't have quite the,..um, suggestive profile yours has, but it will work fine for its primary purpose. :lol:

dfw doesnt have any good ones or even dallas love? heck if you came out to meacham id drive to either one if needed but oh well im sure you'd be welcome anytime your in the area. love to see a spit out there with the other planes... be a bit of sunshine after working on the 17 all the time ... a nice distraction.

Rick, you may have some trouble duplicating my high tech canopy cover, that is unless you are familiar with the bedsheet section of Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It's not really that I'm that cheap, but I don't have storage room to carry one of those fancy custom made snap on covers.

Didn't think you were cheap at all. Thought it was an ingenious way to work the problem! With no storage area to speak of, you had to come up with some way to protect the canopies and keep the direct sun out of the cockpits.

I went to a fabric store and bought the appropriate amount of similar fabric and some small diameter cord. We recently got a large number of sockets thru the surplus program so I appropriated 4 small diameter sockets and we used them to create the tiedowns on the corners. Then we hung it up and sprayed with a can of waterproofing material . Looks like it will work great and like yours it won't take up much room in the travel pod. It also works great to keep the dirt and dust off of the canopy while it sits in the hangar. We're probably going to make one for the F-4 and T-33.

Bill, wish I was in town I'll would give you a ride to DFW as they are the ones to get you back to Denver. Maybe Doug & Co. @ Cavanaughs can work something out for you.....

Mr Greenwwod,

I had the pleasure of seeing your Spitfire fly at the LSFM Fly In '07.
I also was able to see your Spitfire at Corsicana on Saturday 5-12.
I was hoping to see it fly at Saturdays show.

You were asking about any upcoming TX aviation events.
Have you given any thought to maybe attending this Saturdays DENTON AIRFAIR '07.
How about Alpine's Big Bend Airshow '07 on May 25th and 26th?
I believe The South Plains Airshow '07 in Slaton will be the following weekend on June 2nd.
All of these dates I found through various hours of internet browsing.
I hope to see your Spitfire in the air again sometime this year

Jlb, thanks for your interest. After washing my plane Fri am, I waited most of the day for the weather enroute between Galveston and Corsicana to improve. It finally got better aboout 4;30 pm. I got to Corsicana too late to get fuel that night. I did go to the pilots briefing at 9;30am and the schedule was pretty full and my plane was not on it. They stressed that they didn't want any acro. The Cavanaugh Wildcat, TBM , helicopter came in after the briefing. They did not fly solo either. There may have been a T-6 or two and "Lady O2 pilot" did a nice flight. The rest was civilian. There was a group flight the last thing for warbirds, I could have joined in, but had a radio problem and didn't want to get in a group where I would not know what's up. There were some friends who came to see the Spitfire, so they came back on Sunday morning and I did some flights before I left. There was good turnout of people and warbirds to see even if on the ground. As for Denton, I did phone them a few weeks ago to enquire, left a message, but never got a return call.

Bill..were you able to get your radio fixed at McGregor? and have you made it any further west yet?
