I've got some new info to hand since first writing this post
that I thought I might share with you:

I think the Kaydet from the Tennessee sequence came
from Planes of Fame - N450WT but not sure???

Two Dakotas were used - one in Hawaii was N99131
and one at Van Nuys airport - N26MA - an original
DC-3 with a single passenger door.

Anyone know where the opening "long Island" airfield
scene was shot that has "Mitchell Field" written on
an old art-deco style control tower??

We took the movie paint off with ammonia and a power washer. Not too hard, but made a mess out of my ramp.

Of course the Zeroes were the wrong color..I heard the director wanted them green so they'd show up better on camera.

I noticed the B-25s were simply had OD applied on the upper surfaces..the lowers were left silver or bare metal. In a couple of shots of one Mitchell you can see the edges of the original nose art poking out below the OD demarcation line. But by that point in the film I was so disgusted I didn't even care anymore.

Any ID on the C-47s they blew up in the attack sequence, or were they mockups?

Hi, Simon Beck here, I started this post and have had some
great replies for my Database. To answer your question:

I have yet to confirm this but the DC-3s at this point appear
to be C-47A N99131 used at Ford Island Hawaii parked next
to a replica DC-3??? that was blown up.
A second was used at Van Nuys Airport for the farewell and
Dootlittle returnee scenes, this appears to be DC-3 N26MA
owned by Skip Evans - had a black painted nose.

I believe the "Mitchell Field" scenes at the top of the film
was actually NAS Point Mugu's runway 9/27, a fake CT
was built by a pair of storage buildings out of the way
of the active P-3's flying out of there.

Were you involved in the film directly???
I'm looking for some contacts or other
information on locations etc.

Nope...just a moviegoer who probably went in knowing way too much actual history to enjoy the Hollywood version.
