A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

Maybe I should have posted pics here. I spoke to Gary and he said go ahead as he won't be able to it for several hours, if today at all.

It's offical now! So hold on to your hats!

Here we are all finished with today's man of the hour. From left to right, Mike Hede, Sean Cowger, Gary, me and my Dad, Gary Hill.

Can you tell it had been a long 4 days?

Hope y'all like it. It was a lot of fun, an honor and a privilege, and like everything else on the ol' girl, a lot of work too.

WOW!

AWESOME!

I know some of the other WIX members may not like me saying so, but I love this trend. First LSFM puts the Doolittle Raiders patch on Special Delivery, and now CAF goes with Ol' 927 for Diamond 'Lil... I LOVE IT.

As a Christian, who believes that Matthew 5:27-29 is still relevant, I am sooo happy about this decision. Congratulations to everyone involved.

These kind of decisions make me very happy. It's still in the old style, makes sense, and is family friendly as well.

A VERY HAPPY,
Ryan

Awesome!

Looks GREAT sorry I couldnt make it out today

Well, I didn't get many pictures today, but I'm sure someone will post something soon. I know not everyone will like the new noseart, but no matter what we did, there's no way everyone would like it. However, I'm glad that there are at least some of you out there who do.

Here's the few pictures I took.....

I know it's out of focus, but here's a view from the cockpit while running the engines up at night. The flames are an easy thing to see, but also notice the exhaust stacks, just starting to turn cherry red......

And here's the only two pictures from outside that I took. Sorry about that........

So now it's time to get back to work. I have to rip out the crap we threw together to get this unveiling and fix it right. Floorboards and doors are going to be the things I lose sleep over for the next month or two. I'm not really looking forward to the rest of this.

Gary, I don't know that you can even imagine how impressed we are of your work and how grateful we are that you've taken it on.

What you've done with her is amazing.

Hang in there.

I think the Ol 927 is one of the best and most authentic looking bombers around now. Amazing transformation. And the nose art is just perfect. Kudos to all. :D

While i was somewhat attached to "Diamond Lil", this new look is simply awesome. In the days of $5/Gallon av-fuel, a nice cartoonesque emblem on a t-shirt may be really marketable. Great choice! Don't forget to get a lot of the t-shirts in small :D Kids'll love this nose art. Great job Mr. Austin!
