1/32 BF-109 finished...

Here is the 21st Century BF-109F-2.

It is fitted with the R6 "Kanonenboote" MG151/20's under the wings. This was built for the 21st Century GB over at www.swannysmodels.com

This kit was my first attempt at a free hand mottled scheme, aswell as my first time using an acrylic wash. It isnt perfect, but overall I am very happy with how it turned out.

I am a little dissapointed in the main seam under the fuselage, but its too late now...[#oops]

Looks good to me!

I'd hate to think what it would look like if I gave it a try. :roll:

For $10 I'd say pick one up and find out what happens :lol:

I found mine at Walmart for under $10. A real bargain IMO, and a great way to get more people into the hobby.

I actually spent more one paint than the kit itself.

I recently picked up one of those "Guillows" balsa wood models (B-24 model). The thing is huge and lord only knows how long it will take to put together. I remember trying my hand at one of these when I was about 12 or 13 years old and it just about drove me crazy. I haven't had the courage (or the time) to start it yet but will probably do so sometime in the near future.

Awsome! I've always wanted to build one of those.

I've built the smaller Spitfire and Avenger kits as well as a few other rubber band flying models...

I'd love to have a big monster like that B-24 though. The price is what has really held me back from buying the big B-17 kit.

I think every summer I tell myself I am going to build one...then September rolls around

I'll keep you posted on how things go but I have to admit it may be awhile. When a opened the box and looked things over I kept asking myself what in the world I was getting myself into! :roll:

Like you, I put together smaller planes like a P-40 and an Avenger...but nothing this size! :shock:

I have to admit that I have a new found respect for those early modelers that were forced to use balsa before the introduction of modern molded plastic models.

First of all awesome 109, wish they did Hartman's in that scale, maybe Nowotny's! Second I did the Guillows B-29, Almost 4 feet wide, and 4 feet long, took about a week just to figure out how I wanted to start that monster! Good luck with your B-24!

I am a wargamer and one of the companies makes its own models--Games Workshop. They sell a putty (green stuff or blue stuff) which fills up those cracks beautifully. Squish it in, flatten, let it dry and ten sand it. It'll be seemless

Thanks for the feedback muddyboots. After looking into it further, and discussing it with other modelers. It seems the 109 should actually have a seam on top and bottom. Apparently the fuselage was assembled in halves and then joined together. So, while my gap is a bit big their should be one there.

Needless to say I was happy to hear that. :wink:

That looks pretty groovy. I'm not a fan of the 21st Century kits, but yours looks dang nice and I may just pick one of these 109s up and try 'em out.

I don't think that I've actually seen this kit yet... does it have screws and rubberized plastic plugs like the other kits? If so, how'd you handle the plugs?

For the price, I say you cant go wrong. :wink:

This kit did come with the large screw holes and plugs. I used glue and the screws to hold it together. I then used the plugs and filled them with model putty and sanded them smooth, like filling any other gap. Going by the look of your other builds you should have no trouble taclking one of these kits.
