I'm looking for information on a B-17 with the 401 BG 8 AF Swingin' on a Star. Specifically looking for a picture of the nose art if it exists. I have a partial shot of it on the back of a jacket in 'Vintage Aircraft Nose Art' by Gary Valant.
Any help would be appreciated
David

David,

I have a copy of Valesco's book and looked the picture up. The photo credit in the book is given as NASM. Probably your best bet is to send an online archive request to the NASM and see if they have a better photo of the artwork.

Here's the link for the online archives request form.

It'll take about 3 weeks before you receive a reply in the mail with the information they have. It's worth a try!

I had a look in Wallace R.Forman's B-17 Nose Art Name Directory.

It only lists a single B-17 carrying that name, but it only confirms the BG as the 401st. N

Neither the squadron or aircraft serial number are qouted for this airplane

Sorry I couldn't be of more help !
