Has anyone been to the Freedom's Call Tatoo at the Air Force Museum before? If so, what was it like?

From what I hear, it is well worth it and was told to be there early. I am a volunteer at the museum (since February following our move to OH from NJ) and living in the area it will not be a long drive. Not sure of the distance from Akron. Assuming you have been to the museum already but might want to make a day of it and visit the new exhibits.

Yes, I have been to the museum and love it! I've been there every year the last 5 years! It's a little less than a 3 hour drive with all the contruction now, but I'm going to be in Cincinnati for a wedding on that Saturday so I thought I would go down early for this. I heard there may be static aircraft as well as many flyovers.

I volunteer every Friday at the museum. I'll see what I can find out next week and get to you if there is any more info than on the museum site.

The Tattoo is a decent show. Personally, I have never viewed it from the museum grounds, preferring to watch from a near-by parling lot. In and out of the area much faster

But from where we sit we get great views of the aircraft as they make there approaches to show center.
They seem to be rather slow getting info out as to what they plan to have this year. Their website has nothing listed, and neither does the ACC site. So far, all I can find is that the CAF Great Lakes Wing's C-47 and the BAHF C-54 are scheduled.

CAF Minnesota Wing will have their B-25 Miss Mitchell on exhibit.

Thanks, Mike. I scanned several wings' sites for schedules, but there were just too many of them for me to hit them all!!

I did just read that P-51 "Red Nose" from the Dixie Wing is scheduled.

I dont know what to expect, but we're going a bit early so we can spend some time at the museum.

Do you know which are flying and which are static?

I think this is going to be a big event, like the 50th Anniversary of the AF when they flew everything. I know we're going to fly the '54, and we NEVER fly in shows.. (See earlier thread)
See you all there!

PhantomAce....expect everything to fly, IF things are done as they have been the past few years. But remember that if it does go as usual, there is no static display as such. The military hardware stages at the museum itself, and unless I'm mistaken, the warbirds do, too.

Thanks for the info! This sounds like it will be really great! You said the military stuff will stage at the museum, does that include the B-52 and C-5? I didn't think the runway was that long!

For anyone interested, there is a promotional video on the website of the Museum. On the museum's home page, there is a link on the right side for audio and video library. Click on that and on the bottom of the next page you will find the link for the promotional video.

OOPS! Sorry to get your hopes up!! I had people talking to me as I typed that last post. The military stuff stages at the BASE, not the museum. They fly out of there, do their fly-bys and go back. I believe the warbirds will be doing that, too.
