I'm sure the right-wing religious nut jobs out there would love to do just that if they got the chance. Remember...it's their god given right to pass judgement on others and to decide what's moral and what's acceptable these days.

...and we will soon be getting out a hammer and chisel and refacing the 200 year old marble facades of half the buildings in DC, and giving up our supposed unalienable rights to practice a religion if the secularists get their way. Good try though....

I'm not talking about removing the word "god" from public buildings or anything like that. I'm referring to the real nuts out there like Fred Phelps, Pat Robertson, James Dobson, and the late Jerry Falwell. These clowns are nothing but a bunch of bigots that use the lord's name to further their own agenda.

Thank god people like Jerry Falwell were around to "out" one of the Teletubbies as gay. Yup...poor "Tinky-winky" prancing around with his purse, purple color, and triangle symble on the top of his head was a dead giveaway that the creators were pushing the "homosexual agenda". Since both my kids watched the show as children and turned out just fine I think Falwell's fears were a bit over the top. :?

What I'm trying to get at is that I have nothing against religion. However, I do have a problem when self-appointed religious leaders decide what's acceptable and what's not acceptable whether it be warbird nose art or "decency" in the entertainment industry.

O.K....rant off...feel free to start flaming! :crispy:

Ryan,
I think it's wonderful that you spend your days doing your best to live up to the Christian ideal. However, not everyone shares that ideal with you, for whatever reasons, none of which really matter anyway. If anyone is offended by images of naked women, no one is forcing them to look at them. I notice that in all of your biblical quotations, nakedness only refers to women. Why is that do you think? Just another way to "keep women in their places?" Are we really that threatening? Perhaps I'll paint a naked man on my plane and call it nose art..... Will anyone be offended? Then don't look at it.

The thing to remember here is that IT'S JUST NOSE ART! If some of these young guys, far from home and any semblance of normal life, who were flying (and dying) for their country, wanted a painting of a hot, naked woman on the nose of their aircraft, does it really matter? Certainly a Christian God didn't object, as they didn't all fall out of the sky for the sinful and presumably lustful paintings on their planes -- and the Allies still won the war!

I'm just here to keep on top of what's going on in the warbird world, and if that includes nose art, that's fantastic!

Kirsten

I can think of one religious zealot that wouldn't be offended. I bet disgraced evangelical preacher Ted Haggart would be drooling over your noseart of a naked man. Remember...he was the preacher who loved preaching the evils of homosexuality while at the same time he was having a homosexual relationship with a gay prostitute who happened to also be his meth dealer.

Oh but I forgot...after that intense 2 week treatment program his church said he's all cured now...yeah right!

Oh, well that was just a VERY quick sampling I took. It also condemns men doing such as well - witness Noah getting drunk right after the flood.
I think there's more emphasis on the other side because it's a problem more often than the other.

More of a problem? What's more of a problem? Men not being able to keep their pants zipped? I'm sorry, but I just don't buy the "uncontrollable lust" thing that apparently occurs when a man sees an image of a naked woman.........Heck, if I could incite uncontrollable lust in men by going around naked, I'd never get dressed! As I said, I don't buy it........The human body has been a subject of all forms of art for centuries. Would you like to burn us all at the stake for admiring it? I can't speak for all women, but I know that admiring the form of a naked man doesn't inspire me to drop trou and go for it........but I still like to admire! And admiring hasn't struck me blind or caused any major upheavals in my life.......

Besides, isn't it really a moot point? Nose art exists ..........What shall we do? Censor representations of it on all remaining images of it from WWII
as well as the current representations on WWII a/c? I would think that even more inappropriate. I would also think it an insult to the pilots and crews of those aircraft!

Public nakedness has been a sin ever since Genesis 3, and the fall of man from the state of perfection in the garden, and it is clearly considered shameful throughout the whole Bible.

Ryan, I'm going to assume that you've never been to Hooter's
But, if you were offered a ride in a P-38 with naked women nose art painted on the side would you go?

I remember the line from "Apocolyspe Now" with Col Kurtz doing his monolog on the radio talking about the young F-4 pilots dropping bombs that kill, maime and destroy at the whim of their commanders who at the same time won't let them write "F*ck" on the sides of their airplanes!
No point with this I just like the movie

I make myself laugh even before I write my comment . . .

My plan is to stay away from the religious side of the argument, because I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

The nose art, I can take or leave, either way. Me, I just get “excited” hearing the old birds fire up! The nose art is just an added bonus! LMAO!!!

Offended? No. You need some help painting it on? :D

That's why I'm not a Yellow Rose Squadron member.

How 'bout seeing Col. Anderson's "Old Crow?"

Would seeing that incite bouts of drunken revelry??? I mean, it IS an alcoholic beverage, after all........perhaps that should be censored also???

My point is only, once again, that it's "nose art." I don't see the fate of humankind resting on it. Appreciate it or don't, that's your choice. Personally, I consider it history AND art. My choice is to appreciate it for what it is without reading all kinds of "issues" into it.

Steph, let's have a chat to discuss our options! :D
