My sister took the shot of the aircraft from the tower while I was flying it at Cannon, and the background is part of our ranch. Kind of combines two of my favorite things.

We asked the guys at AvSpecs who assembled Dove of Peace when it arrived here about the yellow Merlin and they were not aware of the reason why it was painted that way, though they believed it was painted that way in the factory as it was a new engine (the aircraft had been crated since the war and only flown a handful of hours).

Any ideas why the yellow? Was this done by a sub-contractor to Packard perhaps? Maybe Caterpilllar?

The engine itself is red, the oil tank and intake trunk are painted yellow.
