That's the P-51B Sky Clipper a presentation a/c bought by Packer workers assigned to the 355th FS 354th FG. It was flown by Lt Lynn Cocker & Lt Bruno Peters. The artist screwed up and added 20mm cannons. I met Bruno Peters earlier this years and he's a neat guy.

I knew you would nail it, Jack....

43-12484 P-51B-1-NA 354th FG 355th FS "Sky-Clipper of City of Packard War Workers", coded GQ-V - later transferred to RAF (serial SR410) where it served with No. 118 Sqdn

And I hope you realize I was just pulling your leg.

Actually, you weren't really too far off, as I believe North American used a couple of Mustang 1A's from the original British order to create their first Merlin conversions. Who knows, maybe that's what the original artist was thinking.

I'm not quite sure how to use this forum yet, so forgive me if this goes into the wrong slot. I'm trying to find the serial number and other identifying details for the P-51 piloted by Ralph Delgado on March 2, 1945 when he was credited with an aerial victory over a Messerschmitt Me 262.

Hi Bob... great to see you here! I would post an independent thread to ask this question, as this particular topic is five years old. However, you might ask Jack Cook (who posted above) as he has forgotten more about WWII AAF pilots than I will ever know in 10 lifetimes. Jack rarely posts here nowadays, so a PM might be best. Let me know if you have any difficulties.

Cheers,
Richard
