This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Thank you Jim, I see the difference now. I will change the heading to Panther/Cougars. I'm really outta my league with these jets, I only know a little about them.......everyone feel free to add info to this thread. I'm not a real 'wingie-thingie' person, I can tell the difference between Hellcats and Corsairs but you guys are the experts here....

The Panther/Cougar are my favorite of all Jets. It just doesn't get any prettier than an early Cougar in blue. I am lucky enough to have a NOS ejection seat out of one

What's the thing in the foreground? I never seem to stop finding new Navy types I didn't know yet!

Another item of interest in Pictures number 69 and 71 is the portable prototype of the now standard mirror landing system.Evaluations were done using the then normal LSO with paddles as well as the mirror, which was on the starboard side on the flightdeck instead of the port side deck edge for the permanent stabilized mirror system that is in use today.

Thanks again for the recent photo posts. I really like the factory shots - seeing Cougars, Trackers and Tracers being assembled in the same image is pretty cool. Wouldn't be something to see all of these in color!
Thanks again and looking forward to more great photos!
Enjoy the Day! Mark

The 1st pic in this "tigers" series shows the 2 prototypes of the F-111B, built by Grumman. They were the result of Secy of Defense Robert McNamara's misguided effort to have the Air Force & Navy use versions of the same a/c. The F-111B was grossly overweight and was considered a turkey, not a tiger. Btw, GAEC's chief test pilot Ralph Donnel and a fellow test pilot lost their lives in the crash of an F-111B at Calverton in 1966 (or '67).
