I found the article below in the local newspaper a few days ago. There have been rumours around for a while about the hangers at CFB Trenton's Moutain View detachment being torn down.

The local RC aeromodellers hold their annual Fan Jet Rally (June 17 & 18th) at Mountain View a former BCATP base. This might be the last year to get up close to some of the old hangers before they are demolished.

Hi Mike,

I hope to be there at MW on the Sunday 18th for a visit before it and all the aircraft disappear for good...

If it's not too much to ask, can you let us know what ex. CAF types you see there?

I past by Mountainview a few weeks ago and there were many CF-5s, T-33s, and Tutors along with a Buffalo fuselage.

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Canada for having the foresight to sell off their obsolete forces to civilians over the years. Hopefully they will continue to do so. A great preponderance of the warbirds in the US owe their existence to this fact. Thank you Canada, and thanks to all you Canucks! :D

Andrew,

Hopefully when you visit tomorrow the commissionaire will be a little more "accommodating" than the one on duty this morning!

Below are four pictures I took and merged them in Photoshop.

I dropped by the base on Sunday for a casual visit...I took pictures of pretty much the entire collection...

I was told the CF-5 wrapped up were sold but who knows for sure....

I did notice that many of the CF-5 stored last year were no longer there...most of them were just fuselages last year..

Did spot those two CF-188's they would make great garden conversation items..

Guys when I was out at the museum, a engineer from cold lake said that they recovered some parts from the buff like the door etc etc and they are going to scrap it?

How did you all manage to get inside the base?

I was just driving past there 2 weeks ago and there was one fuselage of a Buffalo and a bunch of CF-5 CT-133 and CT-114 Tutors just sitting there.

Do they offer tours?

Todd

Hey Folks,

I work/fly in Mountain View all summer. If you'd like any more detailed information about the aircraft stored there (types, serials, etc), or the field itself just let me know.

Sincerely

Edward

P.S. - Sadly, all the original hangars are gone now except for 6 hangar thats still being used as the home of the Central Region Gliding School.

For now all the CF-5s are going to the US on flatbed trucks--all will fly again and two will stay in the US permanently and fly as private warbirds...cool! I just flew T-33s #564, #452, and #610 out of Mountainview to Burlington VT and will go back in a few weeks and retrieve #599 out of Trenton where we temporarily moved the jets before ferrying them out of Canada. We wanted to get them out of Mountainview before they closed the runway for resurfacing. If anyone like Mike Berry has some nice, recent shots of Mountainview's hangar and flightline (I'm not a very good photgrapher) I can use for an article I'm writing about flying T-33s out of Mountainview, I'd be most appreciative and give you credit for whatever pics get published. thanks!

Peter,

I got some shots of the base and the guys on our team got some of my departures and fly-bys--just trying to find the best pics possible for publication. I'll return to Trenton the last week of August where the fourth T-33 is since I flew it there from Mountainview. My buddy's maintenance guys are going there next week to install new gel cell batteries, tip tank seals and a transponder so NORAD doesn't have a fit like they did on our previous flights sans transponder...but that's another story... :)
