Any news on how long the line is remaining open for? I keep hearing reports about some more European air forces wanting to buy a few.

Nothing official but the horizon is bright. And don't forget the commercial version may be a viable proposition as well.

Good to see "Anglo alliance" expanding the 'big mover club'. The Oz C-17's are based about 20nm from me. Great see see those big mothers in the air.. :roo:

The new issue of Combat Aircraft states the NATO has ordered 4.

The RAF has now ordered number 6. Some stories say they could really use 12.

Rumours down here is that we may go for a fifth.

What's with the CC177 designation? Do the Canucks get to change the name of the aircraft?

The CC was also applied to the C130 in Canadian service, this I believe was special equipment level.

Do not why it was applied to the Globemaster 111, but maybe it was to make their aircraft unique.

Could also apply to special protection equipment.

Someone must know.

The CC130 created problems because the USAF used that same number, to indicate the stretched model of the C130J.

I was at a service center this last week in texas and speaking to a guy who was working the ramp. Ex-airforce who was with the C-17 program towrds the end of his time. Said that "his" C-17 has already been retired. Amazing to think these have been around long enough already that they are starting to park them.

Hogwash!!!! That is absolutely not true. There have been no C-17s retired and there is no reason to retire them.

The test aircraft ("T-1") is still flying at Edwards AFB supporting flight test missions and all the production aircraft after that are still in service. Every last one of them...

i agree. it was rather distressing & unbelievable to hear that a c-17 has gone turkey so fast!!! cripes!!! b-52's & c-130's are pushing 3 generations of flyers!!!

Heck our MC-130's are '64 models with one ea '62 and '63 model thrown in.
