Greetings
I want to take a moment to share something that I got to be part of Aug 02 at DFW airport at 7:30 AM in the overseas termial . every day their is a plane like so many others that arrives at DFW Airport and like so many other airplanes it looks very normal except for one thing this plane carries Home our young service personal to two weeks of RR after serving in hostile places like Iraq and other place of Harms way.
As I was standing their waiting for the troops to Deboard I noticed that their were Viet-Nam Vet's Korean, and yes even a few WW2 vet waiting for the doors to open. to Welcome home the troops Not too many dry eyes in the house that AM and the Smiles were very bright on the returing servicemen and ladys. their were even small children from a day care over 40 miles away their to welcome total stranger home . I saw combat Vet that were litterly tearing off their combat unit patches to give to the children and hug to stranger. the most requested itam is bottle water Yes a simple bottle of water. If you go take your cel phone offer it so they can call home. You now know that their is a plane that arrives everyday at 7:30 Am at DFW. If you can go to greet the soliders home do it ! it is a wonderful event and a very small scarfice on ones part to get up early to welcome them home.

God bless our troops /sailors/ Airman/ coastguard/ service personal !

If I lived nearby, I would be glad to hand a bottle of ice cold water to them. I have had friends return from there and they all say how much they missed ice to make their drinks cold.

I have a friend in Dallas that goes to meet those flights all the time. I also saw one of those receptions when I arrived in Dallas one afternoon. Very emotional!

The flights that Glen is referring to are charters operated on behalf of the U.S. government by American Trans-Air (ATA) using Lockheed L-1011 TriStars, which they pulled out of retirement specifically for this contract. ATA is the only TriStar operator out of DFW that I'm aware of, which, along with their distinctive livery, makes them easy to spot. Every time I see one of them pass overhead, whether it's inbound or outbound, I stop and think to myself, "There goes a planeload of heroes."

God bless our troops!
